Remember when Bob had to get his F250 on the back of a tilt truck out of Landcruiser park...
Well I now know how he felt, seeing his baby sitting up on that tray back.....
The Paj news is not good. Just spent $700 the other week getting the new computer for the car and now she is broken again. Mark has told me but I don't remember all the details, something about a harmonic balancer, pulley, crankshaft, and a nut. About a grands worth of work that our vehicle warranty won't cover, so a mate picked up the paj on his tow truck and this afternoon I see my pride and joy on the back of a truck coming down the street to get parked up in my driveway till I have enough money to get her going again, (not getting many hours at work) .. Oh that feeling seeing her on the truck... I understood how Bob felt that day!!!!!!
From this day forward I swear I shalt never ever, even in jest, take the mickey out of anyone's 4wd sitting on the back of a tilt truck!!!!!!
Cheers
Jo

Hi Jo,
There was a recall on the earlier model Pajero's (
mine was a 1992 but covered a few years after this I believe) to remove, replace and torque the Harmonic balancer bolt as they had a habit of breaking resulting in the balancer flying off and possible damage.
I know as it happened to me. I was lucky in that the keyway on the crank was not damaged so I just had to pay for a new balancer, key and bolt. I tried to get Mitsubishi to pay for it but as I had not kept my address current with them, I did not get the recall notice so was not their problem.
I bought the parts and fixed it myself thus saving around $400. Used copious amounts of locktight and torqued to the correct setting.
The issue was the bolt that held it alltogether.
Regards
David

the warranty won't cover because noting has actually 'broke' and it was a mecanical error.
Just over 12mths ago (before we finally found a great mechanic) this one mechanic did the timing belt etc and he didn't locktite
the nut on. Hence over time it has been working its way loose and that whistling noise I was hearing that we were trying to figure out was it just a coincidence from when we put the roo whistles on at the same time, or was it something mechanical.
Of course we could ring this mechanic but he isn't going to fix it, he'll just lie through his teeth. THe good guys lose out every time and it is the liars and cheats that always win. And I often wonder to myself why I am becoming a hard and cynical person!
Cheers

of course I dont know the full story, only what I have read here but isnt it a bit harsh to call him those things when he doesnt even know it has failed, let alone tried to lie his way out of it?

fair coment, but no we had approached him on a few other things and he denied it, and stuff that we'd ask him to do when he had the car he'd say he's done it, charge us and we'd later find out he hadn't at all... unbeknownst to us at the time, this mechanic had a reputation for dodgy work. Our great mechanic now has fixed up many of his bodgies on ours and other vehicles and the mechanic who had the car with the current situation as soon as we said this guys name he knew exactly what we were talking about.

My inlaws had the front pulley bolt break years ago and it was covered by the insurance company, one of those policies suppied from the used car dealers. The engine needed to be removed the crank was dropped out and the keyway repaired.
The problem will not be that the bolt just came loose, its because the bolt was not replaced when the timing belt was done, these bolts stretch a fair amount which is what keeps them tight after a while they loose this elasticity especially if overtorqued.
It is very important to replace and torque this bolt correctly whenever it is removed Do Not re-use it.
