Has any one else here solved this dilema. I have a hilux tray top dual cab. I cart around a small aerochute its an ultralight aero plane of sorts and the tray was custom made to extend out a further 12 inches or so to fit the plane on. Problem is the tow bar is too far under the tray now and need to get it exteneded does any one know of a towbar manufacturer that custom makes these espesially in WA ?

I would think that any tow bar manufacturer should be able to advise you on the most appropriate course of action including manufacturing to suit your needs.

Suggest you contact a crowd that does vehicle recovery.

They sometimes need to put vehicle on tray and tow a caravan .

this is what I have on my truck

http://www.ozshops.com/P1110012.JPG

its a double receiver top 2.5" underneath 2"

have a double bar 28" extension .. my slide-on sticks out 60cm

it's not yet legalised here in WA .. I am working on that ..
I was told a shop in Vic Park should be able to do that ...

I also a working on a custom trailer with an extended drawbar
that I only need the extension when I really go tracks or off road
on road I can tow without extension with the extended draw bar ..

there is no standard solution in OZ to do that .. only flimsy Hayman Reece
low end stuff .. they only go to class IV for an extension with decent tow rating you need a class V ... so most likely a custom job and engineer certified ..

good luck

Thanks for that...can you tell me where I can get an extended set up like that? You say that this set up is not legal in WA.....It may be I will need to get my campers draw bar extended that seems like an easier option.

I don't think you can buy one for a Hilux .. I got mine in the US
for a US vehicle ... Torquelift is the brand ..
I think you will need a custom job like this ..
good luck

Wow at a quick glance I'd think those extended tow hitch receivers certainly could cause some issues with stability especially if there was any sort of ball weight involved, (ie much less weight on the front wheels for braking steering, more prone to be affected by winds etc.) the further back from the rear axle you have the tow ball the more instability would most likely be the result. Maybe much much safer to get the A frame extended to suit the vehicle.

It's all a matter of the vehicle .. surely with a pathfinder the extension is killing it ...
I can tow 3.5t at 28" extended and don't even feel it ...

have fun
