Afternoon all,

Driving along all is fine until you pull up and stop and take the V6 4runner out of gear(manual)

Car revs up to to about 1200-1600 not every time most times
Tap the accelerator and the revs drop back to normal6-700

Any suggestions?

Gday Troll 81,

It will happen more so when the car is warmer and will happen 3/4 of times minimum.

How do I check if its sand or dirt etc.

How do I clean?
I have already cleaned throttle body inside.

Does yours have an air by pass valve for cold start up's? On my Jackaroo it has an air by pass canal on top of the throttle body, with a stepper motor in it (I think this is what it's called). When you remove the stepper motor it has a shaft with a spring on it, and ends in a cone shaped piece of metal. Basically the computer controls it, and the shaft moves in and out, causing the cone part to fit into a seat in the throttle body. Apparently this lets more/less air through to aid in cold start ups.

Sorry for the dodgy explanation but I'm no expert and am retelling what was told to me.

Aaaaanyway, upshot is the shaft/cone gets carboned up over time, which causes the stepper motor to stick, and consequently the engine to rev similar to what you describe. Every 30000k or so, I just pull it out (2 torx bolts), and clean any carbon deposits off with carby cleaner - all fixed.
