This Day to-night, is still on about Jeeps getting a bit hot!!. Another one went up evidently, The media is a chit at times , Give the company a little bit off space to rectify a problem and admit liability if necessary. Its not the first time this sort of incident has happened over the years with different makes and models of vehicles.

> VWs The fuel pump hanging over the exhaust manifold

If the little absorption tray failed underneath, instant Fire.

Tin battery covers millimetres off the terminals, a build up of acid and hey presto another fire!! .

Xe falcons had a steel fuel line from the fuel pump to within 70mm of the carby & then changed to a rubber hose, for flexibility i suppose, trouble was as age & fatigue came along it would crack and spray fuel all over your lovely hot motor.

Subaru!!! of all cars, know what I'm on about hear, have had it happen on my own, They use those stupid spring clips which are pre tensioned ( the ones you close the ends together to open up) The trouble is if the fuel hose shrinks or goes hard they leak!!, on ours the outlet one on the fuel filter sprung a leak and sprayed a mist of fuel all over the alternater, Potential dasaster.

Landrover and electrical faults , Been a few discoveries go up in smoke.

I know a sales rep who was driving a merc down the freeway, next minute the thing stopped, white smoke every where, he bailed out just in time ,and watched it burn to a crisp!.

So i guess it can happen to any bloody thing really, Ijust think its only fair for a please explain! before the knives go in.

My thoughts only

Cheers Axle.

Hi Axle
I know a fellow who had trouble starting his tojo on cold mornings, so he
decided to leave an old sugar bag on top of the motor, thinking it would keep
it warm, the only thing is, he forgot to take it of, it got warm all right when he was
driving to work, the fire brigade had to put it out, before they took it to the
wreckers.

Cheers

What about car gearbox oil boiling and spitting onto the exhaust. Oil creates fire fire heats gearbox more oil feeds fire.

Hi Axle,

Confession time.....

It certainly can happen at any time.

Years ago I had a you beaut Austin Healy 100/4, pride and joy but..
decided to clean the engine with a fairly potent mixture, can't remember exactly what I used but suffice to say it was very flammable.

There I was spraying away and cleaning when OOPS shorted out the starter solenoid with the tip of the spray gun.......big spark and instant fire.

Was at an airport at the time and fire persons attended real quick, but heaps of damage of course.

Lesson..disconnect batteries. As a form of defence for stupidity the batteries in that car were in a box tucked behind the seats......out of sight out of mind:((

Cheers
Michael
