Choppers going down arn't that much fun.
My cousin in England trained on choppers in the RAF, as rescue choppers.
Reckon one of the scariest bits of training is the engine off landing.
The instructor gets them to fly around then hits the engine kill switch, choppers do evidently glide, at 45 degrees flight angle.
You don't get much time to decide where you are going to land!

Its called auto rotate. Its good fun. Te pilot still has control of aircraft but just doesnt have the power to make corrections. Provided there is reasonably flat ground around when it happens, the landing isnt that much different to a normal landing.
Its the tree and power lines you have to be worried about with a chopper.

...can flare however just before landing.
Water is also a big concern with helo's as a large amount of helo flight is near or over water. They dont float
well, unless they are fitted out with emergency floats.

Went out to Winjanna
Gorge yesterday. GRR to Winjanna turnoff is excellent, (110km/hr), a bit corrugated to Winjanna, and Tunnel
creek crossing needs high clearance vehicle, not 4WD as advised, unfortunately only found out after travelling in, and left high clearance caravan at Willare so couldn't o/n.
The Lennard is still flowing
well, beautiful clear water and excellent numbers of Johnson crocs up to 2 mtres to swim with.
Tonight Stairway to the Moon in
Broome.
James Price Point tomorrow, and the slowly back to
Perth....... to work
