Forumites,
I am keen to buy a Pajero but have a few concerns I was hoping someone could help me with. 1. Has anybody had any issues opening the rear door with a trailer/caravan hitched on, I realise it won't open 100% but does the spare tyre/door hit the hitch. I use a tregg for our camper trailer and am concerned the door will hit the hitch. I tried to check when we test drove in
Brisbane but the towball thread was rusty and didn't have the tools/time to get it off. The dealer says it's not an issue but didn't want to help with the towball. 2. Is there an aux battery tray available and what size battery will fit. eg. 90ah AGM 3. What
suspension upgrade are people doing for towing and off-roading. Any other issues or good points about the Pajero would be appreciated.
Cheers Drew

Hi Drew,
I think the issue with opening the door depends on the shape of the hitch. I think thats the part called a hitch anyway - the square piece that fits into the towbar and has the ball or tregg bolted to it. I have a number of different ones of these that I have collected over the years and they all come in at slightly different heights and lengths. Just get one that sits low enough for you to open the door. I have even heard of people turning them upside down so they sit lower to suit the trailer being towed. There are some differences in the space available in the engine bay for an extra battery depending on petrol or diesel and I think maybe even on auto or manual. The best place to get an answer to that question and also what is the most popular
suspension mods would be on the Pajero Club of Victoria
forum at www.pajeroclub.com.au/ as there are a lot of very knowledgeable people there on the Pajeros. I think the diesel in the new Pajeros is still one of the best available and tows a camper very
well so you would not go wrong with that. The V6 will too but you will use a lot more petrol to do it.
Tim.

Hi Drew.
I have a NP diesel & they appear very similiar to the Nt under the bonnet. I have a second battery fitted, a NS 70 which is smaller than the original battery but fits in nicely at the firewall. The charging system is a retronics RBT WD series which has a control unit fitted in the glove box. This unit controls all functions of the dual battery system.
I have a camper trailer & have a treg hitch fitted. It clears the rear door but I have to
park on an angle if i want to open the rear door fully.
I have uopgraded my
suspension with Kings springs & Bilstein shocks & this combination is great for towing & off road work.
Regards.
Vince
