After all who doesn't?
It a balanced meal, (if you remember your food pyramid)
It's got cereal, veg, meat, etc etc. Because I have anchovies I also get those omega 3 things, sometimes I even put an egg on. Oh, you also get that liposuction stuff from the tomatoes.
I make it at home with a pitta bread base put all the stuff on on and whack it in the oven (which has been preheated at 250c for about 30 minutes.)
To use that
well worn phrase. Not exactly NASA.
The Question is can you achive this result while
camping?
I'm talking
bush camping here not a van
park with a
camp kitchen and an electric oven.
Has anyone tried? Succesfully?
Does anyone have any theory of how to make it work. (We use a 3 burner Dual Fuel Coleman to
cook)

Forgot to add:
Because you can eat it with one hand, leaving the other free for holding a refreshment of some sort, it is probaly one of the best
camping foods around.
I hope someone has some ideas.

I have succesfully made pizza in the
camp oven. 7 minutes to
cook using pitta bread base. As usual the tricjk is to keep the bottom of the
camp oven fairly cool, and put the coals on top, so the base does not burn but the cheese melts.
Kids love it, as do I
Cheers
Mickey

I Have made pizza in a
camp oven many times and it works great. Toppings wahtever you like for the base I just use a ready made packet of
scone and damper mix. Probably better methods but its very quick and easy.
I line the oven with alum foil (two layers) this makes it easy to lift the pizza out of the oven also us a trivet so the base doesnt burn on the bottom.
Enjoy

We have one of the 12qrt
camp ovens( larger size), which is the perfect size (close fit though) for the pre made and sauced pizza base available from the
bakery section of woolies. mmmmm, getting hungry just thinking about it.

yep done em in a
large camp oven which is pre heated fairly hot using the trivet in the base. We make em as per the weight watchers recipie, using wholemeal lebanese flatbreads as the base with tomato&chilli sauce pre semi cooked pumpkin etc... no meat on them but they are great.
a
camp oven on top of your stove should work, or one of the coleman oven boxes which fold up.

Remember, we must be politically correct, It's now "Flat round bread of Middle Eastern appearance"

Think you'll find the term "middle eastern appearance" can cause offence.
The correct term is "non caucasian - non european"

Thanks for your input everyone. It seems the
camp oven route works.
I am interested in alternatives also, as so often in our part ofthe world fires are a NO NO.
Bradley have you actually tried the stovetop fold up oven?
Has anyone?
Any other Non Fire methods?

The 'big boy' pizza brands
cook them for 7 minutes at 270 degrees to give you an idea ;) I could tell you how we make the base but that would be giving away a secret recipe ;)

Hi, I have a non-stick type frypan made by a party plan company called Gourmet. They also sell a packet mix pizza base. You just mix it with milk and spread it over the bottom of the pan then add all your toppings. Put the lid on and it seals like an oven and cooks in about 20 mins. We use ours on the gas cooker on low flame. Yum!

Hi
Pizza can be cooked in a fry pan with a lid, if cooking from scratch the straight on the pan with low heat or even better get a pizza stone and sit it in the base. If you are making one with pitta bread put a cake rack or something like that and keep the lid on. Hint, put the cheese on in slices over the other toppings as it seals the goodness in and makes a juicier and healthier pizza.
Have fun
Craig
