I am looking for all those little hints and tricks which turn 5 inch ruts on the way to Cape york into mere little vibrations....
What are the suspension mods to make them more live-able?_____________________________________________

So what happens if you blow a clutch on the journey, or diff or something else expensive?

This is one thing that puts me off the big trip, not the cost of the trip itself, but the "oh bleep " fund.... the money you need behind you for spares and "if something BIG goes wrong".. Your struggling to pay for fuel (like us all!),

Hey, Truckster, don't you own a GQ????? Cause if ya got a Nissan, ya don't have to worry bout the "oh bleep " fund! And even if something did go wrong, you could pay for it out of the money you made yankin out all those Toyotas that that get stuck on their trip up the cape!!! Tristjo.

Voxon,

A hard hat (earmuffs optional), 12" of foam on the seat, a brick on the accelerator, and a lump of 4x2 wedged across the dash, through the steering wheel and resting on the drivers side window ledge.

I think that takes care of the headache from hitting you head on the roof, the industrial deafness, gives you the most reliable cruise control available, cradles the 'roids, and puts the steering in "autopilot" mode so you still have some function left in your hands when you get to the top end. The relatively high speed tends to even out the bumps, in fact you will probably only touch the earth two or three times every kilometre, so your need for suspension modification becomes considerably less - saves on tyre wear too!

I run the tyres at 20psi on corrugations. Let them take the punishment and make it a bit easier on the suspension.

Voxson I have done many trips up and back , some one said lower the tyres this is correct .Also the old saying of sit on 80 ks per hour and you wont feel a thing is a bit mis leading drive to what your happy with this could be any were from 20 to 80 ks .You will soon find the speed that your truck is happy with. As we say its not a race.
Between Peter and I our own trucks have had no major problems.
I drive a 60 and Peter drives a 2.8 nissan.
The main thing we do to up grade our trucks is good tyres and suspensin and not to much more . WE find a lot of those extras fall of or brake and believe me they do.
So use the kiss pricipal.
All the best
