I have been looking for an NL Pajero, petrol for a while and every one I see has oil leaks. I am starting to wonder whether I want to go down this route, or I start thinking about a Prado instead. They have been mostly rocker cover gaskets, cam seals and perhaps rear mains. All those I have looked at have been between 100 & 140k's, so not big mileage cars by any means.

my 99 Nl has just kicjed over 225,000. no oil leaks, only mechanicial problem is I had to replace the alternator.

Bought it 2nd had with 70,000 on the clock, dual battery, Bull Bar twin Lightforce SL240, Engel car fridge. Been to the gulf a few times, done the BirdsVille track, Victorian high country and more shooting trips than I can remember.

Tow a Camper trailer, cant speak too highly of the beast

The only oil leak i have seen on them is from the back of the drivers side cylinder head. The have a plate with an 'O' ring that tends to leak. Its an easy fix.

Sounds like you are not meant to buy a pajero.
Go for the Prado.

Oldplodder,
Sounds like I have put your nose out of joint. Mine was a serious question. I had a 93 3 litre from new that had 320k when I traded it in so I wondered if the 3.5 had a known propensity for serious leaks. I loved my last one and when deciding to get another 4by the choice was obvious. I thought I would get more considered responses than that from this forum.

Andrew, your suggestion was spot on. A guy I had seen with a NL 3.5 called me back to say he had his mechanic look at his leak and it was "like some inspection plate near the back of the rocker cover leaking" Give that man a prize.

Thanks for the replies guys.
