Hey everyone,
I'm not new to the website, but new to this
forum. I just had a very nice time around Australia, and now I'm trying to sell my landcruiser here in
Darwin before I take the plane back home again.
I only have 1 week to do this, so all the help I can get is very welcome!
The dealers here are giving realy bad prices because they know that travellers like me don't have time and our plane leaves regardless of we sold the car or not..
I heard a story here about a guy who had to sell his car for 500 AUSD, a week later the buyer sold it for 3200AUSD !!!
Are there any worthwhile papers I can post an add in, or is there a carmarket nearby?
Thx
Eric

Pinning ads up in hostels works a treat. Include a picture on the add and include
camping gear if you can. It can make for a quick sale.
good luck

Eric Try the Trading Post or AutoTrader websites they are national and if someone is looking for a good 60 series....state wont slow them down too much!!
I would also put heaps more detail in the add on the specifics of the car...we sold heaps of 60's in Aust and they spanned nearly 15ish years!! Engine Petrol/Diesel? Transmission? Spec level of car...Pics? Condition?
There is very little in your trader add and the more info the more chance you have of selling it. BUT GET A PIC IN ASAP!!!
Goodluck
Matt.

Hey eric
Tell me more about your car eg: model, year, km, etc and then I will tell you what it's worth in
Darwin and who to take it to.
Cheers Steve.

Hey eric
Just noticed your trader add, Backpackers would love something like this.
I'm not sure where the B/packer car trading yard is now, but it wouldn't be hard to find, Just ask a B/Packer.
Also put your add in all the hostels, Be warned B/packers love to haggle on a price.
My wife has posted a link to a German travel
forum as
well.
Cheers Steve.

great to have replys already!
The landcruiser is a 60 serie deluxe model.
I already put up notes in all the hostels in town yesterday.
It's a petrol, 330000km, 10/1984, manual 5 speed, airco, cd player,..
Is it usefull to pay for an add in the newspaper in the week? Or just on saterdays?
thx for all the help
Eric

Hello Eric,
Unless it is immaculate, $5900 may be slightly on the high side for a petrol 60, perhaps prices in
Darwin are a little higher. If you only have a week I would consider starting out at a very good price rather that having to give it away at the last minute. Just a thought.

I think it's a fair price considering all the extra equipment that comes with it.
I saw a dealer in town asking 8900 for exactly the same model (could have been a diesel tough this I don't know), without any extras!
For me it was cheaper then renting a 4wd to travel around with.. but considering the airco repair, the new tyres and all the extra gear I had to buy and now comes with the car, if I have to leave the car at a unreasonable price that could change.
No luck asking around for a carmarket.. seems there once was a place like that in Mitchel street but I think its gone now.
thx again for all the replys, Ill try the german wife link ;)

You can also post your ad up in shopping centers such a Casuarina for a very small fee. Otherwise the local paper NT Times may be worth a try as
well.
We had to sell our Troopie in
Perth in a hurry (before moving) and yes unfortunately all the extras (engel fridge, 6.4ltr V8 diesel with low k's) didn't really add much to the resale value at all (we sold it on consignment in the end, and made a big loss primarily with the $$ forked out to put the engine in). So yeah don't expect too much just because of the extra's you have on there -that's exactly why people take off everything they can before selling. The extras however will help sell the car.
