Upgrading the 80 series Landcruiser for a trip around Australia and replacing my current OME springs (861's i think !) with some heavier duty ones. Not sure wether to go for the 863's which are rated for approx 200kg constant weight in the rear or the 864's rated for 400kg.

I have a black widow drawer system (85kg), rear wheel carrier with spare and will be pretty well loaded up and towing an off road camper trailer.

Will the 863's with poly airs be sufficient or should I go for the 864's ?

Cheers

In my 80 series I had the 863's. They were OK with just the spare wheel carrier and drawer unit and full recovery gear. I Replaced then with 864's when I fitted the long range tank, water tank and twin wheel carrier. Also Replaced the front springs with 850's.
Both the 200 & 400kg springs use the same shocker.
I find the ride OK with the car not fully loaded.
With hindsight, I should have gone to the 400kg springs first up.
I have previously had Polyairs but prefer the setup I have now. Remember that the spring must be able to support the vehicle without the aid of an airbag.

recently purchased a second 80 series ,upgraded from 92 to 97 .
Newer vehicle came with 863 on front and 864 on rear
has _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx , rear wheel carrier and long range tank.
swapped winch over (12000lb low mount (43 kg) and front dropped like a dead duck
put belton hd 3'' coils from old vehicle and front lifted nicely.actually a smidge higher than rear.

however after connecting all terrain camper (100 kg ball weight) back dropped to far for my liking .this was without LRFT filled.

then also swapped over 3''belton springs on rear and they only gave me slight increase in ride height over 864's. Covered trailer but not fuel tank.
have fitted 5' hd belton coils to rear and vehicle now sitsup a tiny bit in rear when empty but level with full 260 litres fuel on board and trailer on.

I admit the ride empty is a little harsher but vehicle has much less noticable body roll
BTW I have maintained ome shockers all round .

Personally I think the ome coils while providing good ride height when empty arnt up to carrying the heavy loads.
If your stuck on OME springs I would suggest go as heavy as possible.
hope you sort it out
cheers
