Hi Bundy Boy. CDMA will be turned off in February 2008 and will be replaced by the Telstra Next-G network. This will be about your only choice for country coverage and will (hopefully) expand to further locations as time goes by. A lot of people are experiencing reductions in coverage with CDMA already as the Next-G network is rolled out.
Cheers
Gerry

well you would know, some say sarcasm is a high form of wit. with the saturation of ads from telstra on the phasing out of cdma, it seems a redundant question to ask.
how long since a rollover steve.

The saying goes
Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, or a high form of intelligence.
You have proved the former.

i think you will find the quote goes.. or a higher form of intelligence. i will leave you with a quote from the late great groucho marx... " i never forget a face... but in your case, i will make an exception"

Hiab
Isn't there another quote that goes something like..."If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all"

Hi Bundy Boy,
If you are like me, you only watch ABC TV and therefore avoid the Telstra ads.
As GerryP responded correctly, NextG will be your only option in a few months. However, as
well as the mobile phone issue, you may consider NextG Wireless for your laptop and SAVE on outgoing calls using
services such as SKYPE @ $0.027/minute to call any land line number in the western world. (I think around $0.26/minute to mobiles within Oz)
We got severely burnt with mobile call costs on our first extended trip away last year. Now we make all our calls through SKYPE, when travelling or at home, at the above rates; our mobile phones are basically for receiving calls only. You can also surf the net anywhere within the NextG coverage with the wireless facility.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Shep

Hey Shep.
How do you carry your Porta-bote? Do you carry it on roof bars, or do you trailer it on your CT?
Thanks
George

G'day George,
Guess you've been checking my rig. The folded porta-bote and oars are strapped to the top of the KK with the outboard in the gullwing storage area. Seats and transom are carried in the back of the ute.
It all takes a fair bit of room when you include anchor & chain, PFD's, safety/emergency equipment & fishing gear etc. So you need to be going to
places it will be used.
Cheers,
Shep

Thanks Shep
I know what you mean - I carry my tinny on the roof, and it's a PITA unless you're camped in the same spot for a fair period of time.
I've been looking at porta-botes and rubbed ducks, however I think they'll present the same space issues.

With the Next G phones not all are 850 Mhz UMTS Voice. Tlestra sent me a flyer to replace my current CDMA witha Samsung A701 and it is an 850 UMTS.
have a look at
http://www.3gamericas.org/pdfs/HSDPA_Devices.pdf to determine if the model taht you are going to buy is what you want as most Next G units use the same as the 3G frequencies which is not what you want.

good to see you have
the Pilot thing underway. Sorry i never got back to you about the conveyer belt but I was in the middle of changing jobs.
To answer the qustion I doubt if you can buy a new cdma.
I have a Next G LG TU 500 which comes with a car kit (without ariel thats extra) for 50 bux from any Telstra
shop. I have the $40 plan but my missus has a $120 plan which gives her nearly a grands worth of calls. Just the thing if you are using it a fair bit out of boredom while on the road.
Next G reception should get better over the next 2 years
