Hi,
I have an auxilary N70 battery wired to a pirahna isolator which is mostly used to power a Waeco 110 fridge. I have just bought a 80 watt solar panel and a 20 amp regulator and plan to wire it directly to the auxilary battery.
Is this the correct way to connect the solar panel?
Cheers,
Topend.

Thats the way i have done it and it works a treat...
I have got it topping up the aux through a 12volt socket in the rear of the vehicle..

Me too. You might be able to connect into the Piranha isolator and use an Anderson plug to connect the lead from the solar regulator. If not direct to the battery is fine.

Me too, (direct to the battery) with the same set up.
Cheers

I have wired the output from my solar regulator thru a changeover contactor that switches the output to the battery when the ignition key is off and charges from the alternator when the ignition key is on. Works great on the Prado and I have just set up the new Patrol the same.

This is not required, as Derek has said keep it simple.
Wire it direct from the solar panel to Aux battery via solar regulator.
There is no problem with wiring direct to Aux battery system via a Solar Reg.
If you want to recharge the Cranking battery just use a "small" jumper cable between the two batteries, will do two things, (IF it's a decent Cranking battery) adds extra amps to the Aux battery and will also charge all batteries when camped for extended periods.

Hi Topend
As you can gather it is best to connect directly to the battery. Keep it simple. Every link you add will be a potential future problem or bad connection.
Regards
Derek.
