Did anyone record top gear episode 6 of series 6 where clarkson talks about speed cameras?
I remember him saying that in all cases where speed cameras were increased the deaths also increased and in one place where the speed cameras were removed the deaths went down.
I would really like the actual figures and the places where these figures came from.

Reasons should be fairly obvious. I want to win at least one argument this year.

Clarkson is a Journalist and as such I wouldn't place too much confidence in what he says about such things. Speed cameras catch motorists who are exceeding the speed limit. They don't seem to interfere with the motorist who doesn't speed. Moral = DON'T SPEED.

Good one DIO. Speed cameras raise revenue from people who are travelling at a safe speed in an inappropriately speed limited section of road. They force you to spend more time looking for speed limit signs and at your speedo when you should be watching where you are going. This is particularly true in vic where 3k over and you are stolen from.

Constable V8D says....."if you see a multinova, mount the kerb and run it over!" I'm normally so drunk when driving fast that the photo is blurred from all my swerving , so I don't have the problem anyway.

And my 'Top Tip' for the day is..........If speed camera fines bother you, simply run number plates off a wreck. If in the extreme unlikelihood you are ever sprung by Mr Plod, the fine is less than a speeding ticket and you don't lose any points - Hey presto, too easy!

I don't beleave much of what I see on Top Gear. It just a light hearted look at motoring. Quite entertaining, not very informative.

I have seen him go on about speed camera's twice now. Some of his arguments have holes in them.

One of his arguments is "if speed camera's work, why are there more fines now than two years ago?"

UUMMMM, theres quite a few more drivers on the road now. Just looking at the number of new vehicles sold around the globe last year (hundreds of thousands) of course more people a getting caught speeding. Not to mention the fact that new cars are more powerful than ever.

Angler

That is an argument you would not win.

Speed kills. Speed cameras are effective in reducing vehicle collisions and there has been research to prove it.

There are statistics available at Govt sites if you want to have a look.

Well doh!! Of course there are "statistics available at Govt sites". Wouldn't have a vested interest now would they ;-~

Just as many studies available on NON govt sites that state the opposite.

IMO the most effective deterrent to speeding is more coppers on the road in marked vehicles. Also has the added benefit of being able to enforce all the other road rules as well that cameras can't.
The culture of speed cameras assumes that the only rule being broken on the roads is that of speed, cause that's the only rule being targeted. Why? Cause there's more ROI for the Govt. Speed cameras are about revenue.

Just thought I would mention I have never had a point on my license, or a speed fine since about 1965. That was when I was going down hill near Nambour on the old road, the old EH just coasted down that big hill a bit too fast.

No points back then. I have been driving since 1960 and I admit I have been over the speed limit a few times however I certainly always try not to.

I just wanted to hear the figures again. I must admit I did feel better when driving in the NT when there were no limits. I quite enjoyed not having to check the speed every couple of K's. I found it easy to keep to a reasonable speed without knowing exactly what that speed was.
When back to Qld it was back to continuous checking of the speed and speed signs.

If you have ever driven into Adelaide on that double highway you will know what I mean. Every couple of K's the limit changed, and for no apparent reason.

The cameras are most certainly revenue raisers, even governments admit that. They may help in preventing accidents though these days I seriously doubt that as we have had three fatals here in the North over the last few weeks all youngsters in WRX's, all well over the speed limits. One passenger admitted they were "only just over the limit". 80 k in a 60 k zone. I don't know how we stop the carnage and I certainly look forward to the day when it slows.
The new laws will not stop inexperience from getting on to our roads. I only hope I am not around the corner when an idiot comes the other way at a speed that causes me damage or worse.

The law is one way of slowing you down
Death seems to be natures way.

Twas only figures in pommy land , so pretty irrelevant for convict bred Australians ,we all seem to know that speed enforcement in any shape or form is
"revenue raising" got nothing to do with saving lives ect , { insert sarcasm here} and big pink pigs fly , simple realy , don't speed and you wont get pinged !!
