For those of you who are not bothered by the sound of a generator running and like to retire for the evening and read for awhile, hate it when I have to get out of bed to shut the generator off. The problem is now solved with the use of a mechanical retic timer, the type that screws straight onto the tap. A few modifications, a washer, small bolt, some solder and light twin flex, tapped into the shut down switch on the generator, set the timer and the engine shuts off at the set time. We are off to
Darwin on Thursday so no more getting out of bed to turn the generator off for me.
Regards to all

Our generator doesn't need such an invention. The manufacturer deliberately made the fuel
tank the right size so that when you set up, about 1600-1700 in the afternoon, it automatically shuts itself down about 2300, no need to get outa the swag either!!
Cheers,
Dion.

The cheapest way is to only put a small amount of fuel in the
tank.

Yes, letting the motor run out of fuel is one way of doing it but not a good idea as when the engine is starting to run out of fuel it causes it to surge. This may cause a voltage spike and damage equipment like a fridge, no problem with lights. Engel used to warn against this ,don't know if they still do. Nav.

Was having thoughts about getting a gennie, but on the weekend it has nearly turned me off them...... a van that was approx 80m away with a honda 20, running until 9pm.....although the noise wasn't all that loud, it was constant and became annoying !!
If people with them can't do without them when amongst other people, maybe a dusk shutoff time should be considered ( in the bush it would be impossible to police, so only thinking of van parks and campgrounds etc )
Hows that sound ?????

Gronk,,,,I try to consider other people when I use my genset but there are a few people like me who need good 240 volt power all night to run a CPAP or sleep machine run off
battery power through a 240 v inverter. I have a solar set-up on the van but this only works when its daylight and running fridges etc I need the genset for backup. Some of us can not do without them... Nav.
