We are about to embark on a 3 month trip in our new slide on camper / Nissan Patrol Ute but reversing is a real problem due to the camper body. Appreciate any feedback on best reversing cameras members may have.

Old Mal, I'll be looking at the replies too with interest - reversed through my roller door a few months back (it wasn't all the way up when I engaged reverse and started to back out the garage).

Craig,

I haven't got that problem any more, it doesn't fit in the garage anymore, although I'm also interested in the repsonses as I need one also.

Cheers

If I were buying again, I'd get a screen that replaces the rearview mirror, and probably use the same camera I currently have, which is a 92 degree infrared camera that just needs a 28mm hole drilled in the back, and you can aim it downwards.

I've had a Jaycar DIN size 7" in dash screen that you pop out, but it flops down whenever you hit bumps. Screen works well though. And when I bought it, I was a bit wary about ebay. But I think its a bit overpriced at present.

Derek on this site sells this sort of stuff. Also theres a good choice down at Autobahn for reasonable prices.

If you are planning on computer mapping, you may want to look into touch screens that have inputs for both, but I think I'd prefer to have the computing separate from the rear view camera.

Yes, I have the small (5" I think it is) TFT screen that came with the Poron (now known as "Polaris") system. It was designed to be mounted on it's own stand on the dash etc. However, I removed the interior mirror, used the "break-away" bracket set-up and mounted the screen where the mirror used to be. It can be viewed by everybody in the vehicle (whereas a mirror is only of any use to the driver). I have a total blackout behind me due to the cargo box on the dual cab, so a mirror was a total waste of space anyway.
Have a 2nd camera on the back of the camper trailer and it can be switched over via a button on the screen unit.
Bloody great set-up.

Young Mal

We invested in an Aussievan reversing camera on our 20' van. My wife was a lot more confident to drive the troopy plus van.

I used it more than the mirrors. Highly recomend.

How did we manage before reversing cameras? It still pays to physically check behind your vehicle before reversing, you never know when/if something or someone could be under the rear wheels, out of sight of both rear view mirror and camera. Too late if happens to be a child.

Try this site www.nesavision.com.au
they're a mob based in W.A.
I bought a tilting camera for the truck, which tilts down when backing up to the trailer or camper, this tilts back up to the horizontal when driving and I also have a bullet camera on the camper and I have them alternating on the screen, so I can keep an eye on the camper as well.
I bought those through Cobra car alarms in Vermont, Vic
