Last solid front axle Cruiser

Can any one tell me, definitively, the year and model of the last Cruiser than ran with a solid front end?

Standard 100 series still has them..not sure if there is a "2007" model

The new 70 series Landcruiser also has live axle

You may have to specify what model "cruiser" you are talking about.

Current 76, 78, 79 & 105 series have them.
Previous 75 series also.

I said 78 series???
Maybe need to be more specific these days????..........
Ahhhhhh!!! The 6 cylinder and the V8 78 & 79 series have them.

To many bloody models.

Yep getting there Col, still some electrics and re fit radios etc.
Just can't find the time to spend 4 or 5 days straight to get it finished

100series (105series) is no longer available with rigid front end - stopped at the end of 2006, when they stopped delivering the 1Hz cruisers in Australia.

All 100series with either 1Hz diesel or 1FZ-FE (4.5 litre 6 cyl petrol) engines had the rigid front. All V8 petrol and factory TD had IFS.

Like they said, all the 70series cruisers still have rigid fronts.

The brand new V8 troopy also has a live front axle.

Apparently it will be the "new" poverty pack cruiser (at nearly 60K)

I've got a mate with a factory TD 100s which came with a rigid front. Was the last of them he said, and is probably about 5 years old or possibly older now.

D-Jack,
See if you can find out what the compliance plate under the bonnet of the vehicle says for both the vehicle and the engine. If it is as you describe, it would be HDJ105 with the 1HD-FTE engine.

Toyota stopped the factory TD after the 80series, and then introduced the 1HD-FTE in 2000, so there was a 2 year gap with no factory TD.

They were still producing the rigid front 105series poverty pack 1Hz and GXL 1Hz up until the end of 2006.

John, clearly I have no idea what I'm on about. I know nothing of Toyota models since I owned an FJ55 about 20 years ago.

I'm looking to replace to my current 4by and am considering a 4.2TD Patrol, 4.2TD Cruiser (80 or 100 series) and maybe even a Defender Extreme. I didn't want to start another thread that ended up being a Nissan vs Toyota or a LR fans vs the World bleep competition between. There are enough of those threads already.

I'm looking for something around a 2000 to 2002 model and don't want IFS of that vintage so was seeking info on when Tojo introduced IFS to the 100 series. As an aside, what was the last year of production of the 80 series? Anyone know?

If you are after Station wagon then the last TD with a solid axle was the 80 series 98 but a late model low k one will cost you more than a late model petrol 100 series 5-7 years younger.
No 100 seires was brough out with a solid axle in TD or v8 petrol

Solid vs IFS front axle.

I haven't had a look thought the forum, but has there been any discussion of the pro & cons of each type of suspension setup.

From my perspective, anything that reduces unsprung weight can only be good in terms of the rest of the vehicle, but I guess some worry about the extra complexity of a IFS.

I have a new LC100 with IFS and alloy wheels, and it handles corrugations far better then any other vehicle I have ever owned. I tried it out on the road to Winjanna gorge last week.

I spent may years as a kid sitting in the back of diesel Series IIA Landrovers on cattle stations in the Kimberly's in the late mid/late 60's, and my bottom end has never recovered...... Catastrophic clutch failures (or broken axles) in the most inconvenient places in the Leopolds were also a regular often resulting in long walks, or a camp up for a few days until "Mum" sent out a rescue party.

The roads were so rough then they used to fly the beef out.
