need another gearbox for my 1984 SWB (2.5L T/diesel) and was just wondering how different the gearboxes are from the petrol to diesel models and how hard to convert?

If its strength and durability you are after, I dont know if I would bother. the petrol gearbox of that era had the same internals as that of a sigma- which proved to be too weak for the petrol pajero. 5th gear was an all too common problem, I had
mine done about 3 times.
As to whether or not it would fit, I cannot say. You would really need to compare the bell housing bolt placement (easier said than done)
If you are looking at a rebuild, What I would suggest, is look around to see if a stronger set of bearings can be put in the box
good luck, great little 4wd the paj, many fond memories
