Recently we came upon the remains of a crashed aircraft in the wide sand bed of the Hugh River . The bits were aluminium , and had been widely dispersed by floods .

Could anybody give me any ideas about where to search for information regarding the wreck ?

Thanks ,

Willie .

All reportable aircraft incidents are lodged with the Dept of Transport and Regional Services - ATSB. Australian Transport Safety Bureau.

They would have all the details

Hello Wayne ,

We have no idea of the type or size . It must have come down pretty hard and disintegrated OR the floods have broken it up , because we only found small metre square pieces . There was nothing really to take pictures of , except the two bits we found and they could have been from just about any part of the plane .

I would imagine the fusilage is under the sand somewhere .

The wreckage was only about 2 klm upstream from Stuart Well . Not the Camel Farm on the Hwy , but the Well located down on the Hugh River . I think the co-ordinates for the site would be 24 15.109 S , 133 23.320 E .

Thanks ,

Willie .

Willie,

You might find out something by contacting the Alice Springs Aviation Museum.

www.nt.gov.au/nreta/museums/ascp/caam.html

They do not appear to have a web site and from memory the museum is manned by volunteers. A letter may be the way to go.

Thanks Kingsley ,

I just had an idea - that it might be a stock helicopter . I automatically assumed that it was a fixed wing plane .

I think that they may have been asked already , but I will check it out .

Thanks a lot ,

Willie .

Try CASA ( Civil Aviation Saftey Authority )

" target="EOF" class="lbg">www.casa.gov.au/fsa/index.htm

If you think it is a recent incedent the flight safety magazine has a list of all crashes listed under 'statistics' but you will have to sift through all of them .

If you know where the wreckage is you could contact your local office , they will no doubt have all the info
