I have a dilemma and I'd be interested to see what others think. I currently have a TD100 LC but am considering swapping to a new TD Prado. Has anyone driven then new Prado TD and a TD100 to give me a comparison or their thoughts.
thanks

Wait until the new 200 series comes out then decide. By then both motors will be proven either good or bad. Depends also what you will be using it for.

Bearing in mind that it IS Friday.

Don't buy either.............Buy a Discovery,

When it breaks down, at least you can sit in comfort till the tow truck arrives.

I've got an auto TD100 and drove a manual D4D Prado around the track at Rosehill. can't help with the blacktop. I still prefer the TD100.

Hi Dev123

I have an '03 TD Prado, which over the last 12mths I have done the typical offroad mods to (springs and lift, shocks, snorkel, battery etc). It is great to drive on and off road but .... I don't consider it to be tuff enough to be able to handle some of the harder off road work. Previously I had a leaf sprung hilux which I gave a lot of hard work out over the years. I would not want to put the 120 series though half of what I did in the hilux. While I havn't bent or damaged the Prado (yet but its only been 12ths) I do not have the level of confidence in the Prado as I did with the hilux to tackle hard off road tracks.

So, to answer your question, if you want to do some real off road work (other than bumby dirt roads etc) than I would think the LC 100 (or 200 series ? even though I havn't owned either) would stand up better to the hard work than a Prado would.

Having said all that, my wife loves driving the Prado and hated most of the 13 years driving the hilux.

The Prado and 100 series are both just as capable off and on road as each other, I would go the Prado with the D4D 3lt engine, we have a Hilux and its great (even better with a chip).

The 100 series is alot bigger and fuel consumption is more about 13 to 16 lts per 100 versus 10 to 11 lts per 100 (wait for the 100 series owners saying they get 11 lts per 100).

We get 12.5 lts per 100 towing our car trailer with the race car on it sitting on 110Kph.

The engine in the Prado has been proven, its been in the market for about 4 and a bit years now (the Prado has had this engine since 2003-4 in Europe).

It comes down to what you like and want.

Regards Richard

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. The vehicle will be used mostly for weekend camping trips and an extended trip to the outback each year. So am thinking the extra range in the Prado may be helpful.

Cheers

Prado will go anywhere Cruiser would go without any problems...

One main deciding factor for most people is the internal space - If you need more internal space then go Cruiser if you are happy with the space in a Prado and don't have 3+ grown kids to fit then Prado would be the pick.
