Hi All, does anyone know if the Freedom has an invertor built in as standard ?, mines an 02 model I see theres a black box under the club lounge seat which I presume is where the inverter would be and I believe it tranforms the power voltage from 12 to 240 volts is that right ? any and all info would be appreciated,
Thanks in advance
Dave

This box in a jayco transforms 240v ac to 12v dc. All the lights, water pump are 12v.

Hello Dave, not sure about your 02 freedom, but we have a 98 Jayco Westport & there is an inverter "thingo" under the lounge which was standard on that model.
From what I understand the lighting in ours is actualy 12 Volt , thats what all the bulbs are, and there are not seperate bulbs for each voltage for each light fitting, nor are there seperate switches.
We have a master switch near the micro to change from 240 to 12 volt. I think the black box transforms incoming 240 volt power to 12 volt for your lighting circuit.
Hope that is of some help!!

Just a follow up Dave on my previouse post ref your black box under the lounge.
We purchased our van secondhand & like you were a bit uncertain what the black box actually did, as well as a few other things.
Anyway, shortly after purchasing it we damaged the electrical cable connecting van to car & when having repairs done by an auto electrician he told us that the black box in ours also has the capality of charging the battery if you have one fitted to your van. We dont have a need for such a battery, so cant help beyond that. Cheers.

Barry

In a van of that age you will have the mark 1 Setec power supply. They only charge at an applied voltage of 13.8 V - This voltage is only a maintenance type charge, not a replenishment type charge. To efficiently charge a battery you need in excess of 14V. To see how effective these units are read - Site Link - the power supplies in these imported motorhomes are similar to the Setecs.

The later model Jaycos use the Setec II. They are reputed to have a 4 stage charger. I don't know how effective these are.

Dave I have the 04 Freedom and I think the black box is a transformer which converts 240 to 12.

Mine went just out of warranty but Jayco agreed to replace it as I had only used it a couple of times and I understand they had had a number of problems with it.
