We are travelling to the Cape in June. Is it a trip that can be safely done with one vehicle? I am an experienced 4WDer and we have recovery gear including a hand winch and snatch block. Vehicle is a V8 LC100 with OME suspension, Mud Terrain tyres, a rear Airlocker and a snorkel.

Cheers,
Topend.

Easily ! Your only problem will be getting run over by others doing the same gig.
Enjoy!

Thanks, we were planning to travel with 2 other vehicles but our 18 month old daughter may slow us up.

Just take the usual precautions and she will enjoy the trip as much as you. Any medication or special baby supplies should be bought in Cairns, as supplies up there can be problematical. Same goes for the car and adults in your party.
Don't forget the insect spray.

You will not have a problem and will find that there is a lot of traffic doing that trip in the event you may be unlucky enough to have a problem there is a lot of help coming from behind.

Travelled to the Cape via the Old Telegraph Track in a convoy last July - 3 vehicles had camper trailers.
If you are also going on the OT, recommend that you join others when crossing some of the rivers/creeks.
If going on the northern highway - a breeze.
Have a great trip.

In June you can probably expect to see 200 other 4x4's going both ways each day. You wont be alone:-) If stuck they will winch you out of the way so they can get through & if broken down just put the bonnat up & a dozen 'experts' will arrive to lend a hand in less time than you can make a cuppa. If you have permission to wander off on some of the remote side trips like Shelbourne Dunes Or Pera Heads then I'd find someone else as back up.
Have a great trip, Cheers Craig.............
