Hi All,
I want to try an Icom IC-F7000
HF radio to match up to a Moonraker AT230 auto tune antenna that I have lying around. Does anyone have an AT230 and if so where did you mount it?
It is a very long auto tune base and having a GU patrol, I am stumped as to where to put it.
All replies appreciated.
Regards
David

Hi Grungle
Me thinks you have left yourself WIDE open with a comment "It is a very long auto tune base and having a GU patrol, I am stumped as to where to put it"
I'm sure the gang will tell you "where to put it" LOL
Good luck

Hi Pete,
Yes - you are probably right. I probably should have given the wording some better thought.
Lets see what creative answers are posted ;-)

I have one on my 100 series, and It's mounted on the Kaymar spare carrier, using an earlier HF mount. This mount sets the base of the Moonraker just above the pivot point on the bar, and the body of the Moonraker is just on roof height, which is were you want it. Kaymar make a higher mount now, as most autotunes bodies are nowhere near as high as the moonraker. I've got a mate with one mounted to the channel on his bullbar, but I'm not sure of the legalities for this. Also, be aware that the base is rubber mounted and it will move about a bit, so you'll need to make sure that it does flex enough to hit the bodywork. I think if you could mount it somewhere low off the rear doors, it will work OK and be safe from hitting things; You could probably get a bracket made, but whatever you do, make sure that the body of the autotune isn't lower than the roof,
good luck,
Andrew

We have a IC-F7000
HF radio and we do not use the Moonraker antenna that came with the radio, we use a Codan 9350 with a icom adaptor box.
I am not sure if the older Moonraker antennas work with the IC-F7000, the standard Moonraker AT 230's have a tuner box attatched to then where by the one we have doesn't.
I can
check the colour coding of the plug tommorow is thats any help.
We went to the Codan 9350 because it tunes faster and it is not as long as he AT 230.
We have the AT 230 for sale if you need one, it got used for about a day then removed.

Hi Richard,
Many thanks for the reply. I do have the adaptor cable from Icom that goes between the Moonraker and transceiver so alls fine there. I will set it up today to see if it all works as the AT 230 as been around the traps a bit on a few vehicles so I am not sure as to its servicability.

Dave,
Try Aus 4wd store in SA. I bought a bracket off them that is fitted to the rear door. It slots in between the door and the tyre.
Cheers

Hi Blue one,
I can't find a listing for them. Do you know of a website or have their contact number at all?

Hi
I use a Barrett 910 Auto Tune with my IC-F7000 through an Icom adapter box.
This is mounted to a bracket at the side of the spare tyre on the back door.

Thanks to all who replied.
Will look at brackets for the back door that will allow it to be mounted as low as possible (may have to see an engineering firm).

Hi PandJ,
The radios are a IC-F7000 which is purely a
HF radio and not a IC-7000 (no "F" in the modle number) which is a HF/VHF/UHF amateur radio therefore come under different use and licencing regulations.

Hi Grungle And Olcoolone,
Firstly Grungle ( David) you have stated the IC-F7000 is a HF/VHF/UHF Amateur radio. Thats what you have to have the Amatuer License for!!
Olcoolone (Richerd) your answer is NO, but I could be tied up with ACMA, if you know what that is!
Have a nice day. P&J

Hi PandJ,
Sorry if I have mentioned anywhere that I have a IC-7000 which is incorrect (can't see where I have stated this though).
The radio I have is a IC-F700
HF radio and as far as I am aware - you do not need an amateur license - only approval (read
membership) from organisations such VKS-737 and RFDS (Outpost license)
I will stand corrected however if I have misunderstood the various websites that I have perused over the last few months.
Regards
David
