The tray on the effie is about 12 months old now.
Had a look at the timber floor today, looks like its drying out a bit.

Got a bit of mould or mildew growing on it too.

Question is what do I treat it with? I remember someone telling me Linseed oil mixed with metho? Decking oil?

Should I try to get rid of the mildew first?

I think the timber is Kwila.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Hey Gone Troppo

Park it in the sun UV light kills mildew and mold.

So leave it in the sun for a few ours the wipe off the mildew /mold then treat it with a sealer of your choice.

Cheers Steve.

Use Cabots Deck Clean to remove the mildew.
From the Cabots web site:

Deck Clean is a concentrated blend of timber cleaners, brighteners and sterilising agents. It is formulated to rejuvenate and clean grey, weathered timber and is also effective in removing mould, algae, mildew and tannin stains. Deck Clean can also be used to accelerate the removal of tannin in preparation for coating. A great all-in-one product which is also suitable for all outdoor timber.

Then seal with an exterior sealant.

Cheers Kev

Had a Timber tray for over 20 years and I used Diesel to oil it. A old wood man told me many years ago. The smell goes away after a few days and there is a lot of stuff in Diesel that timber needs to protect from the elements.
Or pay a lot more for fancy stuff which does the same job.

I use 80 linseed and 20 minural turps on Triton tray after 5 years it still looks ok. The daughter now owns the car and does the same.

When I bought my new tray I was advised by the maker to oil every year, or more often, with linseed oil broken down with turps to help it soak in. & years later it is still perfect (except for a few gouge marks!)
Linseed oil makes timber go darker, but this is no worry.
