My son is thinking of buying a 70l Fridgemate portable fridge for camping.
Is any one else using one of these? I have a waeco 50l & am very happy with it.
The 70l Fridgemate is $30 dearer than a 50l waeco.
Any responses would be appreciated.

I had experience with frdigemate years ago (1990's) and they were terrible Failure rate was high and the company that distributed them went bust
Not sure what they like now but I would not touch one

The Frdigemate of a few years ago is not related to the Fridgemate by Evakool which are simply the best value for money fridge on the market.
Evakool are a great company to deal with and make excellent products at good prices.

If it is the one that I had years ago with the controls and compressor in the lid compartment, I would stay
well clear of it as they are hopeless in 30 degree plus temperatures.

I think you need to rename your post "Does anyone have a Fridgemate Fridge made by Evakool?".
Obviously the old ones were crap and the new ones appear to be very good.

Hi Brooksea
If you are refering to the Evakool range then they are ok for what they are and are a good fridge if you don't mind the external compressor.
When designing our own 50L fridge / freezer (Actually 51.7L) we looked at what is the best seller on the market and made a similar product. IE: The Engel 60L combi which in fact is closer to a 54L by my calculations. The 40L Engel is also closer to 36L just by the way.
The old fridgemate was a big problem have a look at this old post.
fridgemate

Derek.

F.Y.I.
Have a look here.
New Link to fridge-mate
The compressor looks like an early Engel unit.
