A mate of mine has a 94' Rodeo and during winter (down south) or the cooler months up here he has a fuel starvation problem. He has to pull over and prime up the fuel then it gets up and go's. He knows that the fuel line from the tank to the mechanical pump becomes empty and then needs the priming. It appears that when the motor is warm already (5mins of driving) it will not happen.
Any possible solutions appreciated.

The most likely cause is because air is getting into the fuel line before the injector pump; check all hose connections and replace any hose that has become hard or cracked........it doesn't hurt to cut off an inch or so of hose where there is sufficient hose to do so and reattach the clamp on a fresh section of hose. Note that diesel fuel hose should be soft and flexible to achieve a good seal. The other possibility is the front seal on the fuel pump could be letting air into the system. Check all connections between the fuel tank and injector pump including filter o-rings and if this doesn't solve the problem take the vehicle to a diesel fuel system specialist.

Good Luck, Jagg

Hi Pilbarra 2 It sounds to me like a fuel wax problem in filter & when it warms up Lets sufficient fuel flow through. It also pays to use genuine filters ,anyway they are usually cheaper than after market. I also own a Rodao of a similar age.
Cheers Bungarra.

Hey mate
we have a diesel '90 twin cab with the same prob, a mechanic we spoke to says its a seal in the injector pump thats gone hard and is letting air back into the system, nothing wrong with the pump just a seal needs replacing.
