Hi Guys,
Bought some junk at the local car boot sale. One item I picked up was a hand held radio ($7) thought it was worth a punt as it turned on and sqarked a bit.

Its a Motorola GP328, I have been trying to find out some info on it, It seems there are several variants, VHF and UHF and different numbers of channels.

Has anyone had any experience with these?

How can you tell if its VHF or UHF?
Can you get them set to run on UHF cb frequencies?

If worst comes to the worst its cost me 7 bucks for a mornings entertainment.

Some of the newer Motorola are PC programmed..
You might find a Motorola chat room/ forum that could help point you in the right direction.
However, if it is VHF- there's no way you'll get it on UHF CB band..

If it's a VHF unit it may be capable of being programmed onto the 2m Amateur Radio band so you could either try to sell it here:

www.vkham.com

or, better still, go for an Amateur Foundation Licence yourself and get to use _proper_ radios :)

Hi All,

To find out the specifications of any transmitter just put the name and model in your search and you will get the answer after you have surfed the info supplied.
The Motorola GP 328 is UHF 450- 527 mhz which can be used on Amateur and cb bands.

Is it a 4 or 16 channel radio? Also what is the part number on the back sticker (will say something like AZH25SDC9AA2).

If you let me know then I can give your details.

Hi Ian,

The radio is GP328 16Ch 136-174MHz radio. Not really good for much unless you are a keen amateur as Mike above pointed out. Can only be programmed by a PC as well.

Do a Google search (Australian) on the number you gave. It still sells for quite a bit new so secondhand should be worth a couple of hundred $'s.

A lot of the mines up this way use VHF high band but at only 16 channels would not handle even 1 mine.
