Rosco - Qld
Hi boyzngirls
Any up to date info on the
Creb Track? We're off back up the Cape in July ..... OK OK I know..it's a mongrel of a job, but someone's gotta do it .. ;-))
Would like to go through the Creb but unsure of condition, access etc. Apart from the obvious wet weather issue.
Cheers

check out this site for latest info
http://www.wettropics.gov.au/media/med_issues.html#creb
Would have to contact Wet Tropics closer to the date, but it is usually open around July. Had a bit of rain in recent weeks, particularly up that way. I travelled Bloomfield 2 weeks ago, and this track is in good nick, given the wet has not long finished
Cheers

The Wet Tropics Management Authority advises that the
CREB track will remain closed for the near future. A causeway at the
Daintree end of the track is badly eroded and some local sand was placed in an attempt to get vehicles across for repairs. The general state of the track is really quite good and has held up through the wet extremely
well. The track will remain closed until Ergon Energy can arrange for the necessary repairs to the causeway and also complete vegetation maintenance in the area.
The
CREB track is the service access track for the Ergon Energy powerline to
Cooktown. It traverses a spectacular yet sensitive part of the Wet Tropics World
Heritage Area from the
Daintree River through China
Camp to
Wujal Wujal.
Gates and signs at the northern and southern ends to the
CREB track advise motorists if the road is open or closed. Motorists are warned that using the road when it is closed could incur penalties for breaching a regulation under the Wet Tropics Management Plan 1998.
For further information contact Bill Carrodus of the Wet Tropics Management Authority on telephone (07) 4052 0546.
The public is reminded that a permit is required from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service in
Atherton to visit
Roaring Meg Falls. For a permit telephone (07) 4091 1844.

Went up the Bloomfield .. (track/road) last time. Thought I'd like to take a peek at the Creb. Not in a rush so plenty of time to take it easy. From what I gather it's pretty
well a full day taking it easy, may even
camp a night somewhere along it.

G'day mate
Heading off 6/7/07 for about 5 weeks, so allowing about 4 weeks Cairns/Cape/
Cairns.
Do you have any tagalongs planned then? If we cross paths again we may find more time for a better chin wag than last .. with all your brood wondering what the bloody hell was going on ... LOL.
Cheers cob

Rosco, the RACQ website on road conditions lists the CREB as definitely closed and not likely to reopen in the near future.
Bad luck this time by the sounds of it. Perhaps we will see you on the Bloomfield?
