Hi all
Just chasing any information on the National Parks east of
Carnarvon. These include Nuga Nuga, Lonesome, Expedition and
Robinson Gorge. If anyone has any info or experiences they like to share , that would be great.
I spent
Easter at
Carnarvon and would like to have a look at these parks but not a lot of information out there.
Thanks

Hi... We spent 3 nights at
Lake Nuga Nuga last August after spending some time at
Carnarvon Gorge. From memory it took us 2 to 3 hours to get to the
lake.
Top spot if all you want to do is "veg out". We only saw one other camper in the time we were there. Very peaceful and quiet. There are no designated campsites, just pitch where you like. You will have no problem getting
well away from anyone else who might be there. But be aware - there are absolutely no facilities. You need to be self sufficient. The
lake is quiet spectacular in it's own way. There are a lot of dead trees sticking out of water and it is quite eerie. Bird life is prolific and the sunrise and sunsets are spectacular.
I got the impression (rightly or wrongly) that Qld NP would prefer to keep it under wraps - I don't think they get out there much.

G'Day Squaredeal, Went to Expedition in Sept 06 in 80 series cruiser towing an Aussie Swag camper. Dirt road in off the highway was OK but the last 16km or so track into the park took about an hour. Up and down over ridges and gullies and the the track was greasy after a few showers, not heavy rain. Were there a few days and had a storm one night that made the creek run a banker so watch the low spots for the
campsite. Could get real boggy in and out with decent rain.
Good camp at Starkvale, by a creek and shady with toiltes only so be self sufficient .
Walks in the main creek/
gorge (Robinsons) not the one at the
camp were quite good and easy not high degree of difficulty. Take note of the last few metres of entry into
the gorge as it looks a lot different on the return after a few km's walking, there are not defined walks like
Carnarvon, this is the beauty of the place.
Would get cold in winter as I've had damn cold times in
Carnarvon in mid winter.
Nothing at
Lake Murphy, could
camp there but not flash.
Lake was only a dry
swamp when we were there.
Isla
Gorge is a
camp with
toilets just off the highway, could walk down into an "open"
gorge on undefined track but is dry country and not spectacular.
Further south,
Bunya Mountains was a pleasant few days
camp with a few good walks that are
well layed out.
Had a few days in Crows Nest NP and the walk here was OK too.
If you happen to be in
Brisbane the NP head office is in Ann Street and they have a wealth of phamplets and info on all NP's.
Try, www.env.qld.gov.au for park detals as
well.
Happy wandering, Doug S..
