Gday, has anyone fitted a long
ranger 147l fuel
tank to a LWB GQ wagon? Would like to have a go myself. Have been told some jobs are fiddly and a pain in the bum but some jobs are an easy bolt up using all original fittings and bolt holes. Fitting here in Pt Hedland over $400 so basically double that in a capital city.
If anyone has any ideas or thoughts with any aspect of the fitting job they will be appreciated.
Thanks
Barnesy

hay there Barnesy.......not a hard job do it all from underneath....may have to remove bumper and rear step........the only thing is when you change the sender unit over..have a look at the contact solder points.....may be worn ..so i would change sender unit while
tank is out as.with the extra size.....sender may crap out quicker......and you'll have to drop it all again....and that's a pain......also genuine sender is .......$500 roughly..............hear in
Perth

Can be done by 1 person, but MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH easier with 2... Even easier if you have a Crazie laying round
Takes few hours, the
tank has 2mm clearance in spots which means some twisting and turning, one end in first, then up this side, drop that end etc... Fuel filler hose has to be modded, and as said, check the sender while out.
I would doubt it would cost anywhere near that round here...

G'day Barnsey, my wife and I did ours, with two it's a piece of cake, I used the original sender out of
mine(not a problem so far, coming up for 3years). Yes it's tight but 2mm I would dispute that, may vary on different years of GQ??. Give it a go you have nothin' to lose

As said before, easier with two people or it just takes a little longer.
The senders on GQ are known to fail, but you should have an access hole in the floor which would let you take it out later should that happen.
In theory it should last longer in a bigger
tank because it goes up & down less, also the longranger fuel
tank has a baffle/dam thing in it which helps to stop fuel sloshing about, which the genuine doesn't.
If your towbar obscures the removal of the rear bolts for the
tank, you may need to take this off to fit the
tank and unfortunatly this means you gota take the bumper off to do that.
Just doit
cheers
