I have decided to fit a
UHF radio into the BA Falcon so when l am towing the camper I can keep an ear on the
UHF radio. I have fitted a few over the years including my current 80 series. The problem l am finding isn't the fitting of the radio into the dash but rather where the heck to fit the aerial. I cant use a conventional bonnet/guard mount because of the shape of the bonnet and guard not to mention
the gap between the two doesn't allow for the coax without pinching it. I am beginning to think l will need to fit a nudge bar although not my preference. I would appreciate any ideas or solutions.
Regards.
Steven

We had a XR6 turbo and mounted a Icom IC2010 in it, the radio had a remote head that we mounted underneath the tissue box holder in that little cubby hole in the consol and we mounted the radio body under the
seat.
The antenna was mounted from the rear boot on a bracket we designed, the bracket has 2 holes in it for 5mm bolts, you drill 2 holes in the arm that lifts up the boot....not the body ...you then drill a hole in the body under the rear windscreen in the corner out of site to run the cable through.
The bracket we designed is contoured to suit the underside if the boot lid.
I can send you photos if needed ir sell you the bracket, the bracket is not something you can easly make at
home as it has steeped reverse folds, it toke me about 10 hours to design the first one.
We have full metal work and engineering facilities.

Hi Steve, what about the very small bar that bolts up where your number plate goes then your number plate bolts to that, there mainly used for
driving lights. They are available from supercheap and are about $70. Providing when you screw it up to where your number plate goes you have a metal backing earthing shouldnt be an issue should just earth itself via the two bolts. Cops use them for the lights above there number plates and I had one years ago on my camry mainly so I could put some
driving lights on it but didnt want a dicki looking nudge bar which will cost you in the vicinty of $400. Just a thought. Regards Steve M

Hi Steven
I did not 'fit' my
UHF radio to my 2yo model Falcon coz it is a leased one and they dont like holes drilled everywhere.
For my
Kakadu trip last year I bought a GME TX3400 I think it is (the split one) and just had the small screen and speaker sitting loose on the centre console all the time. The main box with the speaker sat on the floor under my
seat and I could hear it OK. I bought a magnetic arial base which I plonked in the middle of the roof and feed the cable thro the back door up to the base and it sat there beautifully, even over the worst corrugations. Cant tell you which arial I had but it just looks like a phone arial.
By the way, all the advice I got was that the roof is by far the best place for an arial.
The whole thing worked
well, and also made it so easy to transfer the unit to my recently purchased Cruiser.
Cheers, Dalb
