When I first got one of these little gadgets I think it was about 64mb and thought wow this is fantastic , 44 floppy discs on one thing, and even then as soon as I seen them I used to dream of having a car radio with a USB port on the front for playing MP3s,
well thats what the way it is now, So then along came the 1gb, then 2gb, Now one can get a 16gb flash drive , Corsair 16GB Flash Voyager USB 2.0 Drive , So do I see the demise of the CDs and Hard Drives ..I think Yes.The days of listening to our music on a thing that turns is just about done, I did have a Cylinder record once until it got broke, then we had the 78rpm, reel to reel tapes, 12inch LPs in 16 and 33 1/3rd rpm, 45 singles and EPs, 8 track cartriges, Cassettes, CDs, iPODS, all of which have to turn to produce music, Now we have Flash Drives, no jump, No skip, Corrugations are a breeze,I wonder what's going to be next, Can it be better than a Flash Drive, today I can't see that but who knows what the future will bring., couple of Movies would fit on a 16gb drive

Doug
Just walked in from repacking the trailer for the umpteenth time.
Crystals will be the next thing. Saw something on Catalyst program the other day. Was only listenin' with half an ear as usual. Something about a lump of crystal storing everthing on it. Not quite sure how it is accessed. Maybe just talk to it:-)
Yep have all me music on a simple MP3 plug-in with Flash stick operating through FM radio.
Don't remember 78's or 45's....... must've been before my time...LOL
Cheers

G'day doug,
Makes life easy with all this storage, also makes it easier to loose the lot to a failure as
well. Think 100's of years down the track and kids will have nothing to look at in musems cause its all stuck in broken flash drives.
Its great to have it all in one device but some times its nice to have a hard copy ie: book, cd or record.
makes you wonder where it will all end hey, just down load it straight to the brain???
Cheers Stefan

One of my hobbies is the digital remastering of records, those are the flat discs with a hole in the middle....Now I waltz into tricky dickys this morning and notice that there is on sale a
turntable and CD recorder all in one for about $500.... My way is best, I get the real feel for the performer, yep I have an mp3 player that is great when I go for walks as it hold much more than I can carry...
The USB flash drives are great though, like a woman has her entire life held within the confines of her hand bag I can hold
mine in a flashdrive haning around my neck...

What about the price? I remember when they came out a 64 or 128MB flash drive was over $50 - yesterday I saw 1GB (or was it 2GB?) drives at 3 for $50..
Bit like how a decent 26inch colour TV about 6 years ago was $1500 - now they are about $250.. I remember paying $800 for an Akai hi-fi VCR about 15 years ago - now they can't give them away. Paid $500 for my first dvd player...I'm sure Blu-Ray players will be down to a couple of hundred by Xmas next year
While I'm at it - does anybody else hate the way you put a dvd into your machine and you have to go through about 2 mins of warnings, musical intros and whiz-bang graphics before the menu finally arrives? When will someone make a disc that (apart from maybe a 5 sec copyright warning) starts playing the movie immediately? If we want the menu, we will PUSH THE MENU BUTTON THE REMOTE!!!!!! (Excuse the shouting - I feel much better now....)
Cheers
Rich
