Yep = I did, I did, I did - I retired Friday the 18th May 2007.
Now the fun begins if only I could remember what I am supposed to do.
The other bit's out - looks at the ground all the time but I am sure someone on this site will tell me what happens next!!
Grrr!!!

What age?
Got 4 months until I'm 55 and looking at potentially pulling the pin then, but want to see the new Mandurah railway working first! Been working hard at it for 7 years and want to stay to then end.

Don't worry, others will see you've retired and try and make sure you have "something to do". Eventually you'll wonder how you ever had tiime to go to work.
PS Being retired means never having to say you're wealthy :))

As for the other bits, after a while you won't see so
well or feel so
well. If you can see
well enough to worry about the ground then there's hope :))

You are spot on there Footloose, we have been retired for nearly three years now and still trying to work out how we had time to go to work. It's the kids you know, I'm sure they don't want us to head bush, they worry too much
about us!!!!! (The chickens are coming home to roost) hahaha
Cheers

Crazy Dog
Congratulations, and no doubt thank for the small wins achieved along the way. Not quite there yet myself, but close. Hopefully the lose of routine and that empty feeling will only last until Monday (maybe Tuesday), then like the rest of them you can say "where did I fit work in".

Mate, just make sure that the realization actually matches the anticipation. Most cases it simply doesn't. Good luck to you. Hope your partener shares your enthusiasm.

Congratulations!
Your problem now is to find time you want to all you want to do... It's funny how once you retire how time disappears.. I hope you can do all the travelling you would like to do!!!

Why did it take two days to tell us about it? Did the Farewell Party last that long?
From this day henchforth you will be known as 'Lazy Dog' who has no time to do anything.
Mate called in the other day. I asked him if he wanted a cuppa. His response - No thanks I don't have time. I'm retired.
May all your expectations be realised and may you live long enough to get all the jobs (read trips) done
Hey 61 is not old. Just early days of 'more experienced'
Kevin

What's the bet you have thought about your job at least once this morning already? :-)
Congratulations and all the best with your next stage of life. I hope to be able to make it that far one day......

Good move Crazy.
You have beaten me out by about 6 months, if I last that long without becoming a crazy myself.
Mind you, I'll beat you by 9 years (in age).
House goes on the market in September, when it's sold we're off.
I'll keep an eye on your posts for the next 6 months, keenly watching how it treats you. Hope Crazy doesn't turn into Crazier.
Cheers

Congratulations , Hope your retirement allow you to do all that you have planned
l 'm jealous.
Not that I'm old eneough to retire yet
saw your post and looked up the diary
I still have 153 working days to go before I start long service leave. by taking it on half pay I can see things thru until 55.
the one benefit of 34 years in the public service is that they have a good super scheme which allows for early retirement.
Not game to hang around until 60 just because it will be tax free. Might cark it in the meantime.
cheers
Howard
