One of the topics listed on this site relates to Navigation Systems. Does anyone know of a retailer in Melbourne/Metro who specialises in setting this configuration up for a notebook based system in a 4x4. That is, install all components including mapping, GPS, cabling, notebook stand etc..... I have my own notebook and therefore don't want some off the shelf system.

To answer your question...No...lol
Most people on here do it themselves.
Cabling
Notebook
Ram Arm or others to rest Notebook
GPS of your choice
Oziexplorer Mapping software CD
Natmap Raster, Hema Maps and others to load into the Notebook
You may do an Archive Search and find 1000's of posts and answers relating to any of the subjects mentioned.
Cheers

You will save yourself allot of money if you DIY. It’s not hard at all..depending on what you want. Search in the forums and you will find heaps of info. I run a laptop under the drivers
seat, I also have a USB hub next to the center console where I can plug my camera, IPOD…etc into. Then one cable going into the dash for the touch screen that sit on the top DINN slot. I use a small invertor to power the laptop and the USB hub. The next phase will be some sort of cover for the laptop to protect from dust and stuff but the current setup works really
well for me and I wouldn’t change it for anything.

Troll,
How is the laptop standing up to corrugations? I assume that you use it to power the smaller (7 inch?) screen and run the moving map. It always concerns me that the hard drive might not be happy in that environment. I guess you don't put a brand new $4000 unit in there. How cheap do you go?
Kingo.

Laptops are designed to take a certain amount of abuse and mishandle so I am not too worried about that. I have not done any real long rough trips just short weekend away. My laptop was about $2000 new. The only thing that I am really worried about is dust and crap

Best to call them first before you
trundle down there and assume they will, plus see what it costs.
