The story up here on the
Gibb River Road is that some 14 Toyotas involved in a Toyota promotional tour decided to rush across the GRR in the rains of last week. Result was several nasty sections of road and reportedly several road closures into parks. They passed us in Leopold Ranges in the rain - mud covered and travelling quickly into the night. The tour was called "Over the Top" - and it seems it was!
For info
Mitchell Falls and
Kalumburu roads opened about 2.5 weeks ago. King Edward Crossing was running quickly at about 85-100cm. A Triton was in need of a complete cabin dry out but all others in medium-large vehicle cats got through without drama.
Mitchell falls
camping area now has fee of $6.50 per adult. Was
free camping. Fee introduced on about 8May07.
We are now in
Derby and heading back along GRR to visit the bits that were closed. Traffic is building steadily. Britz everywhere.
Day 120 and still going strong.

Darwin to

Just went back and 'did' half of it again!! Now in
broome. Traveller numbers are rising. Graders have been along GRR again as rain created a few bad spots - but all is
well and beautiful
