Further to NO.1;s post about email and not wishing to hijack that thread I need a solution to another email problem.
We have a wireless network at
home and use Microsoft outlook (not EXpress) for our email.
This computer is in the study and gets a workout as far as use with the kids.
How can I view the emails on my laptop in another room. I am sure there must be a way.
I have an Ipaq Palm that I connect to and it downloads all email to this so I assume there is something I can do to get the emails on my laptop
thanks in advance

Hi David
I haven't done this myself yet, as the kids are banned from touching my computer. I think a solution would be to set up the email program on the laptop to access the "Personal Folder" file on the main computer through your network. You should be ableto do this by using File - Open - Outlook Data File in MS Outlook and browsing for the location of the data file on the main computer. Of course you'll have to set it up as a shared file on the main computer first so you can access it.
That way you are actually looking at the original emails, not copies as on the iPaq. I have tried various ways of synchronising in the past, like the iPaq does, but never found a way to do it without buying a Microsoft Exchange server.
Good luck - I'd be interested to know if it works.

The best way is to set up Outlook to leave a copy of the emails on your Host Server (ISP)
You can then access your emails at any time to view and delete at will.
I only use outlook to download copies to my Laptop for future reference.
By the way. You can set up your ISP account to have multiple email addresses.
Your kids can have their own and leave yours untouched.

Do the same as you would do if using an Internet Cafe, Say you were using Westnet as an ISP or Bigpond , so ok you get your laptop connected to the web, then go to westnet.com.au or bigpond.net.au then you log into your account with user name and password and there will be all your emails, this can be done from anywhere in the world

Hi Outnabout David, we have wireless network as
well, you might try the following, (it worked for us)
Go to desktop of your laptop- right click on Outlook icon- right click properties- Internet Accounts box will come up, click on properties on right side of box- click on 'advanced' tab, look at bottom of box and you will see 'delivery' - tick the box next to 'leave a copy of message on server' click OK.
Hope this works.
Cheers

Sorry forgot to mention that you may need to do this on the main computer as
well if it is not already done.

Our set-up is a combination of previous suggestions.
We have a (fixed) desktop and two Notebooks connected via a wireless network at
home.
Our family has a "parent" email address (jgmackeyatbigponddotnetdotau) linked with our adsl service, and we each have a "child" email address linked to the "parent". My personal email address is georgedotmackeyatbigponddotcom. Depending on the context, we will give out either our "parent" (family) email address, or our "child" (personal) Email address.
As per Doug T's post, these accounts can be accessed from any web browser (such as an Internet Cafe) when you're away from
home.
Whilst at
home and connected to the wireless network our "parent" email address is set up on the fixed Desktop. Email to this account downloads automatically from the ISP 'mail server. No "child" Email addresses are set up on the Desktop, however this is easy to do.
On my notebook I have the "parent" account and my "child" account set-up to download email automatically.
Email sent to the "parent" is downloaded to my Notebook with a copy left on the ISP server. If the Email sent to the "parent" is downloaded first by the Desktop then it is gone from the ISP server, and will not be downloaded to the Notebook.
Email sent to my "child" account can only be downloaded by my Notebook. This sounds like the same set-up as Sandman's.
I offer this information with the caveat that having a teenager in the house means constant vigilance in respect to whose Email is going to what machine! All of this stuff is very easily reconfigured.
This started out as a simple explanation as to our wireless network email set-up - I apologise if I've caused utter confusion!!!
