The ‘Great Australian Outback Cattle Drive’ began on Mon 21 May 2007 from Anna Creek Station, south along the
Oodnadatta Tk to
Marree SA, a total of 217 km. It will end on the 10 June 2007.
So if you're heading up that way- have a look out...

Last week I was working out between
Julia Creek and Burke & Wills
junction,NW QLD.Came across a big mob of cattle and drovers on "the long paddock run".
This happens of course to due drought but good to see the old school.
Mark.

I would love to participate in an event like that. I subscribe to an RM Williams magazine called "Outback" & have often seen these droving trips advertised.
Used to live & work in central western NSW when I was a
young fella, my parents had a property out there (Gilgandra) and I used to work on some fair sized
places in the area. Iam a bit old now to mount a horse again, but not to old to reminisce & dream!!

Over rated crock of bleep e tbh.
People riding horses and staying in 5 star tents whilst people set up
camp for them each night. I guess they come
home and tell people how is was in the "Real Outback".

Do you seriously think that if the old time drovers, doggers and diggers came back and were offered 5 star tents and someone to set em up that they'd knock em back ?
The only reason they didn't use a 4wd with a fridge and dragging a camper is that they hadn't been invented, and they could never have afforded them.
There's no glory in what they used to have to endure. It was pityful for most, despite the folklore and romance of the swag type poetry. A hard, dangerous and miserable grind that was romantacized by mostly city based writers trying to stay out of poverty themselves.
I rekkon we should look back and marvel how they ever survived, but not try and emulate them.

Yeah, I suppose they do live pretty comfortable on those re enactment trips, but why not, thats what its aimed at, a bit of the past & a bit of now.
Maybe some who travel the cannington stock route and other remote & difficult areas in a 4x4, portable generator, mobile phone, refrigerator, GPS navigation & an off road camper think they are doing it tough. But they to do it in luxury when compared with when the old timers first did it.
And in either case, does it matter? If you enjoy what you do, do it !! Or if you are not able to, enjoy the thought. Cheers!!

It would have to be comfortable for what they are charging, but good luck to them if that's what people want to do.
I was in
Marree when the last drive finished, it was a great sight to see them come in. It chucked it down with rain later that day and I think because it rained the bloke who owned the cattle could pull out of the deal to sell them and took them
home. I hope to get up there this time and on the weekend I think it is the races.
cheers

Yes, you right, that’s exactly what happened, we took the pictures from that drive, and we were very happy it rained and they could retain the stock and that way Station working.
Few weeks later we watched the segment in TV/on 60 minutes.
Cheers
