Bonnet Strut update from yesterday

Some of you might have seen my post yesterday regarding my bonnet struts.
Well the guy just left and the bonnet is staying up and it’s all fixed for $66. The job took about 15 min and it’s as good as new. No more bumps on the head or wearing hard hats :)
For anyone looking to do this I think re gassing is the way to go much cheaper than replacing and the job was done under 20 min
The mob I used was Gas Strut Recharge 1800 633 027 he turned up when he said and did what he said….as usual no affiliations etc etc

A tip I was given years ago with gas struts is to mount them so that the oil/gas chamber is on the top as this makes sure that the seals are lubed constantly, when mounted the other way the oil will be at the far end away from the seal.
In some situations it may not be possible of course due to clearance of the tube.

But why did it let go in the first place --ie dirt in seal /or rod arm has a nick in it thuss damaging the seal?? if it is either of these regassing is only a stop gap

General Maintenance, Always opening and closing the bonnet, checking everything, all the time, ooooooohhhhhhhh what a feeling. ;-)
