To all computer "Mechanics"!!! I’ve inadvertently installed, Malware Alam 2.1, It’s a total pain in the preverbal, I’ve tried everything to remove it but no luck, any suggestions on how to give it the flick would be very much appreciated. Cheers Ron.

If you are running Windows XP just run the system restore (from Start - Help & Support) and restore your computer to a point before the installation of the pesky program.
cheers

if above doesn't work.
sometimes the files are hidden.
goto file explorer
tools
folder options
view
change to 'show hidden files and folders'
sometimes reveals the little buggers when searching.

Did something similar - if you have AVG, run it, and upgrade it to install the Malware software. It might take a couple of full system tests, but it does get rid of apparently legit Malware programs.
I managed to get all sorts of Malware after downloading what i thought wasa "legit" program, but it kept transferring me back to their own site to purchase software to remove the software I had installed from their site.
Worth the cost of purchasing AVG (inc Malware), and PC runs a lot better (plus SWMBO is happier as
well)

Appreciate your comment, as you can see if I don`t get some thing to work out of this lot then I`m going back to pencil & paper... Cheers & thanks. Ron.

Hi Ron
As Per the first reply, (and having had the same problem in the past) - use the System restore function to set the computer to any date prior to your 'mishap'.
No need to do anything else complicated - this works! (windows XP)
cheers

Only works if you have the system restore "on".. if it is off to free up space on the hard drive you will not have a restore point to go to..
I would say (as said earlier) go to the control panel and go into add and remove programs and if it is in the list remove it..
If it is not on the list then you will find the program in the program files folder under the C drive..
Remove the program folder and the set up folder (the will be on the same page in program files) and then do a restart.. should be gone from that point.. you may need to delete the shortcut off the desktop also if it is still there.
Once you have done this use the search function to see if there are any files with similar names which may be linked.. this will tell you if there is any components left behind anywhere.

system restore is set to 'on' as default. would only be off if Ron actually went in and turned it off......
agree that if there is no damage done to computer, i.e, some sort of virus hasn't taken hold, then go down the add/remove program path, however, the system restore is simpler & easier - I think?...

The add/remove path is the correct path and should remove the program completely.
If it hasn't the delete the program files off the computer and any shortcuts. Then run regedit and delete any reference to the program from the registry. Back up the registry first of course.

Being as I've about 4 differant drives I usually do a "search all files and folders" and that usually finds all the culprits, then just delete each,

Just a fast browse through the answers and do you know what, yours is the most sensible and logic answer of the lot, and the reason I was scanning the answers I was looking to see if anyone had already said it, Good one , though I will add that also go to PROGRAM FILES in the C:/ drive and find the main folder for it and delete it too , This reminds me about yesterday about Incredimail how some reackon it will return and how you can't get rid of it , what a load of Cods Wallap'

Doug,
that may sounds like the most logical way to get rid of the offending program, but it depends on the programers intent. If They don't intend for it to be deleted that easy, no searching of files and indeed no methods used here will delete the program. Some rename the file name with Windows apps so it makes it harder to detect. Often the difficulty is that the program runs on start up and cannot be terminated, therefore not allowng the file/s to be deleted. (must be done if Safe Mode) best way is do a search on Google "remove Malware Alam 2.1" Just make sure you correct your spelling this time....LOL !!!!! ALAM ????

But what it won't do is remove registry entries and other stray files or directories.
System restore is the easiest, safest and a "no brainer". That's what it's there for.

Depending on the program you can try these free/safe downloads:
Adaware www.lavasoftusa.com/
SuperAntispyware Site Link
and Combofix
http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
A lot of so called anti spyware programs are the worst kind of bloody adware! So be carefuly. The three above should be able to take care of most. Download them all, install adware and superantispyware then reboot into safe mode (hit F5 when the compter is first turned on). Run all three programs (including combofix).
Let them all scan and remove anything they pickup and fingers crossed it'll be gone.

At a guess i'd say you have a "seed" left in your registry file that "germinates" after you have removed the rest of the program. Google & then download CCLEANER and install and run it there is also a registry cleaner upper with it which will delete all the extraneous garbage from your registry, don't accept the obvious 'Back up registry" option as the Seed will hide in there and Germinate with persistence until disposed of.
Ccleaner is a good little Pgm especially if you are on the internet a bit.
