I have an Oztrail Queen size one and find it very comfy when used under the swag mattress. It tends to roll up slightly larger after you first use it but I have now worked out how to roll it up smaller.
It also pays to have it unrolled and the valves open for a while in the sun so that it inflates properly when you first get it.

Cheers Kev

Hahahahaha...we're all getting older!!

Get the ones 100mm thick. Sleep like a dog!!! No big deal deflating them but they are bulky.

Cheers

I have a coleman queen size self inflatable mattress and it is very comfortable. Have slept on rocky ground without any problems.

I have got back problems and if I am comfortable on one almost anyone would be.

I've found them not much chop by themselves, but great under a swag mattress (not a lot of use if you can't use a swag though).

My wife is a fussy sleeper, but she loves her camp bed. It is a concertina frame with an air mattress on top inside a fabric sleeve. Look at this

Easy to use, and much more comfortable than having air mattress on the ground. For one thing, no punctures, and for another, no heat loss to cold ground.

Cheers

I suggest it is worth going a bit beyond your immediate needs and think about the benefit of not having to get up and down from ground level. I bought single Coleman folding beds plus self inflating mattresses. The combination goes well.

In hindsight I should have bought a camper trailer - easy set up, limited packing and get away more often.

Very sorry, I wrongly directed the reply to you as a follow-up instead of to Mudguard as a direct reply.

The self inflating mattresses are terriffic!!!

We had a queen sized one for around 10 years before it finally died at Easter this year. (we left it in the dump at Mt Surprise)

We used to have air beds, but the self inflating one was just like sleeping in bed at home. They are quite bulky when rolled up, but if you have a couple of goes at rolling it up, it can usually be made smaller.

When setting up, it is better to leave it for a while to fully inflate before shutting the vents, especially when it gets a bit of age on it.

How much space have you got? We have a queen sized self inflating but have found it to be a pain to get the air out of and roll up if we are moving every day so we recently bought a couple of high density 100mm foam mattresses that fold in three and go in a rectangular plastic bag. They came from Clark Rubber. They are so much easier to pack up that we figured they were worth the extra space taken over the self inflating. Comfort wise there is nothing much wrong with the self inflating if you blow them up just right and they set up pretty quickly it was just the packing up.

G'day
After years of using swags, we've just started using self inflating air mattresses. Being in the north west where it's generally fairly warm, we can put them in a mossie dome if need be..much cooler than the swag. I always scratch out a bit of a hip hole with the swag or the air mattress; it makes a ton of difference. I once had an old air bed that kept going down on me....so I called it Linda Lovelace!

Mudguard,
I have an Oztrail King Single self inflator. It is bloody fantastic. I am a big boy and i found that i never touched the ground once, even when lying on my side. Good investment. A tad bulky as stated above, but worth it.
Cheers,
Bros.
