I have a problem that I cannot quite fathom.
I put two new First Power 60ah batteries in my Kimberley 9 or 10 months ago I have not had any problems, but.... The Xantrex Truecharge 10 battery charger is usually hidden under the bed.
With the Autofridge connected and running, the charger appears to go into an error and stop charging - if I turn the Fridge off and turn the charger off for several hours and then turn the charger ON with the Fridge OFF all is OK - it seems that the charger cannot handle the Fridge running 24/7
Can anyone assist
Could the Charger be faulty, or would the fridge be drawing too much power and causing the battery to go into a fault mode?

Trekkie

you may not get too many replies tonight,,, possibly your batteries are flat or getting down and without fridge the charger can handle the current output and when you turn the fridge on the charger says hey too much required here and turns off to protect itself.

Other than that - if was working before OK, disconnect one battery at a time and try to run and charge together and see what works.

If it was previously working OK I would look to battery charge first and maybe a dud battery next.

Otherwise head to town and get the system checked.

Barry thanks

The voltmeter indicates that the batteries are not flat when the charger ceases to operate - the fridge will continue to cycle OK for several days

Because I could not SEE the charger before, maybe its been doiing this forever but because I had the Kamper in the garage with the top up I could now see the indicator lights on the charger

Ah a real mystery then. If batteries not flat and provide power for fridge for 4 days - it needs more thought.

Maybe charger is overheating and shuts down, check if has fan cooler or convection cooling and if it was under bed vents not blocked with fluff etc.

Check connections everywhere no loose wires etc, charger wiring not shorting to earth somewhere - ie cable damaged by something rubbing against it.

Are you right out in the sticks?

Good thoughts Barry - When I first noticed the problem the charger was quite hot. Thats when I removed it from under the bed to monitor it. It does not have a fan and had free air circulation around it.

I may need to check all wiring for a short as suggested

I am in Perth

Trekkie,

I haven't had a problem like this with my Kimberley - but I was thinking of those switches on the charger - are they on the right settings, ie Wet/AGM and the temp switch?

How old is your KK ?? Still under warranty ?? If not, still give KK a call ( or email )

Have found them to be very helpful a couple of times and they standby their product, so see what they say !!!!!!
