Hi, I was just wondering if any one would know of anywhere to go camping within 2 1/2hours drive of Brisbane. We have 2 kids and want to do some winter camping but hopefully someplace not below freezing. Also if you could also have a camp fire that would be great, so my husband can cook in his camp oven.

Thankyou in advance

Michelle

Where to start is the question... it might pay to get the book "Dirty Weekends" as it has a fair few destinations..

Places on the Northside include Landcruiser Mountain Park... it has off roading but also plenty of places to camp out if that is what you are looking for... you are not restricted to the camping grounds and there are quite a few spots that are good camp sites around the tracks..

Sandy Creek Campin... some off roading but again it is camping and you can have a fire...

Beach campinig Teewah and up to Inskip if you want the campfire and fishing...

There is a host of places within reach and they are all pretty good.. most places are what you make of them anyway so get out there and get that oven roasting away I say..

Enjoy!

The State Forrest at the back of Mt Warning near Murwillambah has a campground, fire place and toilets. It's not terribly big, and you need to get in quick. Great for a quiet overnighter during the week, or a weekend. A lot of people know this one and use it, so arrive early.
Gets cold at night but that just means you can see the stars more clearly. I've never known it sub zero.
The whole area is child friendly.

If you want to stay warm keep out of the valleys. Not uncommon to have -5C in valleys at back of main range.

To keep "warm", camp high eg Peachtrees, Landcuiser Park, Mt Mee etc. not Goomburra Valley, Emu or Swan creek etc.

Fires vary at different sites. Some provide wood. some allow fires if you bring your wood, most do not allow you to gather wood.

Gidday Alan H , was at LCMP about 4 or 5 years ago on the May long weekend, was -5 over night, 2 weekes earlier , I had given firm instructions to SHMBO to get all that unneccessary stuff out of the camper trailer, which included some winter bedding , all that was in the camper bed was 2 cotton sheets and a light bed cover.......... Ummmm still get reminded of that from time to time.

Ahhh as the man said .............. such is life.

or Big Riggen, just before Flanagans. Good for the kids - flat area with grass and freezing creek (Logan River actually) and runs from Flanagans through Big Riggen. Even though we live locally we camp at Flanagans! I know you can have fires there.

If the billy lids are still young ones ,say under 10/12 one of the best winter spots is just out of Imbil at the Borumba deer park , firewood is free and the temp variation is not too extreme ,bit cooler than Brisbane at night but glorious days.

Hi, try Glendon Station 34kms out of Warwick on the Goondiwindi road. 1600 hectares, bush tracks, fishing in dam, gold prospecting. You are allowed to have a camp fire and can buy wood from the owners who are very friendly and helpful. They even had a guy singing on the Saturday of the last long weekend. Also have hot showers and a kiosk.
cheers Allan

Hi Freezer

Try Wivenhoe Dam, 1 hour from Brisbane. they have 2 CAMPING SITES,
Captain Logan & Lumley Camp sites, they supply free fire wood, and bbq pits
on every site, HOT SHOWERS AND CLEAN TOILETS, the Brisbane Water Auth,
run the place, and there is a Ranger on site all the time, they dont tolerate
idiots making a nuisance.

Cheers
Daza
