We are doing a 9 week trip starting in July.
What I am looking for is some form of secure storage that I can bolt into the back of the prado to take the laptop, camera, mobile phones, satellite phone, GPS, PDA and ipod, you name it, when we leave the vehicle and go for a busk walk.
I don't have a draw system and don't really have that sort of money to spend.
The best idea that I can come up with is a very tough toolbox than can be bolted to the floor and padlocked shut.
Does anyone have a better idea?

Try a metal toolbox (ute type) get size to fit across back of wagon, ensure quality locking devices, attach box to vehicle safety barrier with cable locks similar to type used for bikes etc. Works for me.

Thanks for the links and ideas.
Hideaway safe not quite large enough and a little too expensive.
Have ordered a custom size box from M&W Toolboxes in Ryde. $160 and pick up in a weeks time.
I will bolt it to the floor of the prado using the
seat hook retaining bolts that are already there.
Hopefully that will slow anybody down enough to make them look elsewhere.
Thanks

"Hopefully that will slow anybody down enough to make them look elsewhere."
In reality, that's all you can actually expect to accomplish. If they really want to steal your stuff they will, an no amount of deterrent will stop them.
And if they get caught a judge/magistrate will then give them 6 months probation and tell them not to do it again.
.............. and there I go, off on another tangent ....................

you always have the option of a small electronic safe from bunnings.
I use these to hold bolts and ammo for rifles.small ones start at $29 would hold your list of items except for the lap top. there are larger units up to about $140 which may be big enough for the laptop.
cheers

Lloydb,
Most thieves that you need to deter are opportunists who just see something and grab it with or without breaking into your vehicle. I am amazed at how many folk leave things sitting in full view on the seats, often with the doors open. Shame we have to worry but that is the reality.
Your idea of the locked box bolted to the floor is
mine too and will deter most low life. A professional thief will get in almost regardless of what you do fortunately there are few of those around in the bush.

Another option is a pistol safe from a gun smith. Bolt it in same as your toolbox.
