Hi all,
After some advice on a fault i am experencing with my 91 GQ Patrol.
I firstly thought i had a bung battery as it would not hold the charge. Common for batteries to die here in
Hobart during the first cold snap of the season..
New battery, no change.
A rebuild of the alternator later and same fault, appears to charge (via the gauge on the dash, about 15ish volt) then as soon i switch on the
driving lights bang kills the engine...
So removed the
driving lights from the puzzle...Hi-beam and engine still going...no worries...till you switch off the engine, and its as dead as a tack again...
Any suggestions??
Thank's in advance
ChrisWoo..

Chris
You may have a power drain in the electrical system by way of an active wire drawing current even while ignition is off.
I have heard of this one from a mate who found the problem in a faulty dual battery switch. - (a brand with a fishy name)
Do you have a dual battery system? - If not it might be a trip to the auto electrician mate.

Still need more info. Have you had a volt meter on the battery when the motor is running to see if the battery is in fact charging? Is it a single battery set up?

Hi guy's,
Single battery setup, and about 15ish volts at the terminals..
Its almost as if there is a dead short across the battery...
Got me astonished....and i am an electronics tech by trade...
Chris.
