Hi
Looking at going to the Cobourg Peninsula and was wondering how much a pain the permit system is ?.
We will be travelling for approx a year so have some flexibility with dates.
What happens if you are booked for a certain time and the roads are closed, cyclone or whatever, does that mean you paid for the permit for nothing and can't go the week after say?.
Are there any other places us whities are allowed to visit in Arnhem Land?.
Thanks Lyndon & Bernadette

Hi folks,
We went to Cobourg 3 yr ago in late sept.I booked and paid online 2 months in advance then picked up the permit in Katherine office on the way.At the time there was a limit of 15 vehicles max at any one time. There was only two when we were there.
A truly magnificent place if you like oysters and fish.Plenty of wood for cooking.
At the time diesel at Black pt ranger station was 2.20 ltr.
The road in had just been graded except for the last 30 km which was badly corrugated. It was complete on the way out.I would ask if they know when the grader is doing the road and plan accordingly.
Go when the tides have a big run if you fish for mackerel etc.
Cheers,

No pain at all there is no fee and they tell you that if the roads are closed then the permit is void. I have just received my permit to go to Gove which came in the mail 10 days after I applied by fax. You have to fill out their application form which can be printed off their web site. You can be very flexible with your dates as long as you get the start date right make the finish date a bit longer than you think.
When will you be there? I will be in Arnhem Land from 1st to 10th August and then Cobourg about a week after that
Regards
Graham

We are set to leave Adelaide in September, we will be on the road for approx 1 year. Good to no cost.
Have emailed Northern Land Counsel for more info.
Thanks

You can only get to Cogourg Via Oenpelli.

If you try to get there via gove you will need about 30 permits.

Hi Granham
So you have your permits for Arnhem Land and there was no fee you had to pay?
You are going to Gove, is this the same permit for Cobourg, or are there lots of different one's?
Any info you can give us would be great.
Thanks Lyndon & Bernadette

If you go to Gove via Bulman you need a permit but you don,t need to pay.

If you go to Cogourg via Gove you will need about 30 and are near on impossible to get.

You need to go via Oepelli and as I said above last I heard it was $230.

All my post above have already said this.
