Gday all,
I am taking a trip from
Darwin to
Cairns Via
Borroloola,
Hells Gate,
Burketown etc in Mid July. Just after some info on the roads and details of good camps on the way. I will have have my dog and son with me so I guess this will determine drive times and duratio n of stays. Look forward to hearing the good oil.
Glen

If you have a boat you will have a ball,if not you can allways stand on the bar and fish at Roper, watch out for the croc's!! Butterfly Springs down near Nathan river is a great place to
camp,nice
swimming hole,pit dunny only(no croc's).
Lorrela Spring is a nice place to
camp(30km to station from main road),good
toilets and showers etc,you can throw a line in here without a boat also. If you take opera house pots with you and velvet soap, yep you heard correct, take a few bars, there are lots of Red Claw to be caught. This might be fun for your son?.
If you have time you really should go to
Lawn Hill as it is very very pretty.
Undarra Lava tubes are
well worth a visit, near Mt Suprise.
If you haven't guessed we love the Gulf!.
River crossing on the Roper to B'loola road will be easy in July(what are you driving?).
Avoid pension day in B'loola, not something i would want any kid of
mine seeing,very sad.
Cheers Lyndon

Hi Glen,
The road from
Burketown to
Normanton should be quite good at that time of year, the road is sealed from
Normanton to
Cairns
Some realy good
free camping spots are around
Gregory River, just behind the Pub (there are other spots in that area also) have camped at the Leichardt
river crossing, great place to see in the wet, another one is at Einasliegh River about 1km from the pub, Archer River just outside
Ravenshoe.
Cheers
Richo

Thanks for the tips boys. Not towing a boat ( Mores the pity, love me fishing and dont really want to leave
Darwin but duty calls ) , I am towing my quad bike across on a trailer, hoping to have a bit of a play. My intended stops are
Daly waters,
Borroloola,
Hells Gate,
Normanton, Mt Suprise and then on to
cairns. If I find a
camp near a
creek crossing I hope to spend a day or 2 having a flick for some swampy barra. Hope to Leave on the 13 Jul and arrive on the 21/ 22nd Jul. Could you reccommend any such
camp spots that allow dogs on my intended route. Also hope to do a bit of shooting on the way across if the opportunity presents itself.
Glen

Hi Glen,
Get a handle on fuel prices before you go. For example, when we were at
Borroloola fuel was far cheaper there than at
Cape Crawford.
As a fisherman you may like to experience the fishing fraternity at Kuarumba Pt. Quite an eye opener for people like us who only fly-fish.
Enjoy the trip.
