Good day
I need some help and advice on fitting a Hand Brake to Land Cruiser "split type" transfer-case. I believe that this can be done by buying OEM parts or by getting hold of a kit from one of the adaptor companies. Can anyone throw some light on the subject. If anyone has an unused kit laying around or salvageable from a past project, then please let me know.
thank you

I've done it to an early split type case around the late 80's.
But from memory you can't do it with the later cases using standard parts as the shaft sizes changed and the early rear housing won't fit on the later cases. Plus you need the longer output shaft to get through the handbrake drum.
Haven't heard of anyone offering an aftermarket kit.

hopperstoppers in victoria do a conversion for mining that has a disc and caliper plus heavier rotors and rear calipers.not suit of cost but would be a huge improvment on standard handbrake.

I think Snake Racing do a disc/caliper for Hilux, maybe can be adapted for 'cruiser? OF course, then there's the registration and insurance issues - I'm sure your insurance company would love to pay a claim on a vehicle that rolled away with an un-engineered park brake conversion.
I loved the transmisison brake on the old 'cruisers - once they were adjusted up properly and a Speedi SLeeve fitted on the shaft to stop them leaking oil. Best thing I've found to do o the Prado is make sure the park brake is adjusted up properly and cleaned out after mud trips.

Currently getting GREAT fuel economy - while it sits in the workshop waiting for a new head
