I'm thinking about getting my 75 series ute converted to a extra cab. Maybe making the cab 300 or 400mm longer. A shorter tray I can live with but I need more leg space and some extra storage behind the seats would be nice.
Has anybody here done this and who would be the best to do this conversion in or near
Brisbane.
cheers
Reiner

I was going to suggest 6th wheeler conversions in
Dalby but when I checked their web site, they have stated that they have shut their doors due to a law change in Feb 07.

I don't know of any others unfortunately

I think TL Engineering in
Perth still make a dual cab kit. All the ones I have seen are 600mm.
Someone had a complete kit in the
classifieds here for 9 months for $800 and couldnt sell it.
Of course its gone now;)

There is a guy in
Jabiru that has a factory one, he said there were 700 made and brought in to the country.
They look good and you and keep the long tray.
Cheers Steve.

Met a guy in
Ceduna who had a GQ wagon cut down to make an extra cab ute. As
well as the body mod he had the chassis extended and put an 8" tray on the back. I am pretty sure he had the work done somewhere near
Brisbane. Could have been creative conversions mentioned earlier.

Try Creative Conversions in Brendale, Qld, I've seen photos of a few of their conversions (wagons to D/C and Extra cabs) and the owners are more than happy.

Reiner,
Can't help you with the conversion, but it may be worth sitting in the front of a post 1999 79series to see how that compares - the cabs are 120mm longer than the 75series, and the wheelbase is 200mm longer.
I thought that the conversion companies prefer to chop down a troopie rather than extend a traytop.
Cheers
Phil

Thanks Phil, I have tried the 79 series and it does give me more legroom but I have to move the
seat right back ( I'm 6ft2") and I get no storage behind the
seat.
500 or 600mm would be nice.
cheers

The only ones I know down our way doing them were Multidrive in Geelong but at over $5K thats alot of money just so you can put your bag behind the
seat.

Reiner, I bought an already modified Extra Cab ute a couple of years ago and then built a canopy for the back. It was very handy to be able to have my 60L fridge behind the seats and be able to lock valuables up. I think there is a photo in my profile of the rig at
Tilpa.
These things pop up fairly regularly over the west - typically ex
mine or commercial vehicles though. Unless you REALLY love your current cruiser the cost to mod it would (in my opinion) not be worth it. When I sold
mine to buy the wagon I really didn't get any extra money for it than what a standard ute was worth. I thing you'll find the cost will be around the $10K mark too.
Anyway best of luck.

Thanks Hughesy, I was thinking along your lines that it might be cheaper to change Ute's. The problem is that I have spend a lot of time and about $5,000 to get it in pretty good shape for a 95mod . It needs a new tray anyway and I do need more leg-room. I get some real prices and do the numbers but a extra cab would be perfect.
Thanks for your thoughts
Cheers
Reiner
