Has anybody had any experience, good or otherwise, using dehydrated food including vegies etc. on long trips? I have a dehydrator and wondered if it is worth while.

the simple answer is,,if u r nowhere near shops to replenish ur supplies the u need to carry dehydrated stuff and a big bottle of water,,i am inclined to think that with the refrigeration that is available to a traveller that dehydrated would only be needed in an emergency or if u were climbing mt everest where i understand it is very popular

Gidday mate, I have used dehids in past years as both a soldier and later on a tour operator. They are an excellent option to fresh, taste good and take up very little room, obviously you need a good
water supply. Stick to the quality brands in the supermarket. Buy fresh meat and have it cryvaced (can't spell) and freeze it. Dehids mainly veges.

All you need now is dehydrated water and you will be able to travel light! I have found since upgrading from an ice box to a fridge, we don't use dehydrated food any more.
Cheers

Thanks everyone for your advise and it certainly pays to have a second opinion as sometimes we can't see the wood for the trees!
