I am looking to pick up a set of tyres for the 80 series and I have always used Dunlop Road Grippers 7.50R16 over the years with no complaints. In searching for a set of near new second hand ones I have found a couple of sets that are 205R16 am l correct in assuming that these are a little wider?
Regards.
Steven

HI mate,
I think from memory that the 205's are the hilux size and are smaller in diameter. You need 235-85-16 to be the same as the 750-16's

Yes, you are 100% correct. 235/85x16 are the same diameter as 750/16. 750/16 are 812mm diam and 235/85x16 are 809mm diam, so close enough.

According to my ruler 7.5 inches is 190mm. I would therefore assume that 205mm tyre is wider, approximately 8 inches.

Theres a huge difference in diameter - 750mm vs 810mm, so the 205's would be considerably undersized for your 80series. If you want a wider tyre for your split rims, 235/85R16 is the go.
